The film contains quotes from more than 20 films made in Poland in 1952–1989, along with samples from film soundtracks, music tracks, and elsewhere (vintage gay porn movies, music and home video films, social media clips). Completed in Vienna during a covid-19 semi-lockdown, the film conjures my teenage affects and tells them as a blurry and fragmented autobiographical story, simultaneously reacting to the current socio-political situation in Poland, with its “LGBT free zones”, violation of democracy, police brutality, and state censorship.

The film depicts two types of characters: inhabitants of the fictional planet of gender utopian society that are gender fluid, and real characters who find themselves outside of cisnormativity. Aykan Safoğlu takes his artistic friendship with Nihad Nino Pušija as the point of departure for Touching Feeling. Their friendship began in 2014 in the nGbK, an artists’ association in Berlin, where Pušija has been active since the 1990s as an artist, curator, activist, and photographer. Pušija has been recording the world around him for years with his camera: queer life in Kreuzberg, the life of the Romani in the former Yugoslavia and in German refugee shelters; everyday occurrences, but also scenes of flight and migration. Pušija’s photographs form the basis for the film; mark by mark, Safoğlu uncovers them on the black screen. The scratches on the picture’s surface turn into contours and fragments: prompting Safoğlu’s reflection on his role as observer, the defiant beauty of everyday life, and the terrible rupture that war and destruction left in their trail in the 1990s across the Balkans.
The video performance "Persistent Disturbance" visualizes the three-month travel route through South America in an absurd way. At each point where the two artists paused, a short sound performance was created. The performer runs tirelessly with a horn honking through the different landscapes of the Andes. Through this experience not only the different places are shown, but at the same time an acoustic scanning of the respective places is created.
