On the Frontlines of Care

In the context of the global health crisis, we tried to understand how the French public hospital system operated and, above all, how it held up when it was already in crisis. We filmed in immersion for several weeks, day and night, in the largest hospital in Europe, the Pitié-Salpêtrière, in the medical intensive care unit located in the Eole building. Who are beyond their function, these men and women who make up the nursing and non-healthcare staff: doctors, nurses, nurses' assistants, health managers, interns, administrative and technical staff...? This film gives a voice to the invisible people in the hospital, it shows the daily fight against illness and death, but it also tells of the joys, the internal debates on the complex and daily issue of aggressive treatment. It is the story of a human adventure at the heart of this micro-society that is the hospital.

Non-conforme

In a home, a young woman, out of shot, questions four young adolescents without our knowing the reason. Question after question, the answers are either missing or followed by an "I don't know" or an evasive nod. Quickly, the plot is propelled into the near past, the crux of the film gives explanations to the first scene. Indeed, one of the young men, Sacha, continues to face homophobic discrimination when he thought he had escaped it. A hatred that will reach even to the personal effects of the main character. How sad !

Hawaii, l'âme du ukulélé

A passionate ukulele player, cartoonist Joann Sfar ("The Rabbi's Cat") flies to Hawaii to explore the history of the little instrument, as well as the culture that surrounds it. For the pocket guitar, imported in 1879 by the Portuguese from Madeira who had come to harvest sugar cane, is the vector of a philosophy specific to the archipelago: the spirit of "Aloha", which condenses hospitality, joy, love and respect. With brushes in hand, Joann Sfar set out in search of the ideal instrument, meeting craftsmen, musicians, dancers and guardians of Hawaiian culture.

Le Tempestaire

Infinite Loop. In his Tempestaire (2020), Jacques Perconte digitally interprets the meteorological imagery of Jean Epstein's film Le Tempestaire (1947). After capturing images of a storm in Cap Fagnet, Normandy, Perconte translates the atmospheric vibrations of the elements and colours of nature into vibrations of digital images whose pixellized textures and deconstructed take on a pictorial dimension reminiscent of the landscape painting of Romanticism and Impressionism. Perconte's work is a generative video in which images, constantly fed by software, never repeat themselves. The duration of the video is therefore potentially unlimited.
