Mohammed VI - The Limits of Power

Twenty-third sovereign of the Alawite dynasty established in Morocco since the seventeenth century, Mohammed VI took over from his father Hassan II in 1999, and from the moment of his coronation, he positioned himself as a "king of the poor", close to the people. Naturally shy, he prefers to act rather than speak, defining a modern style of governance that has earned him great popularity from the start. Married to a young computer engineer, he asserted a policy of liberalization of morals and even made a critical review of the period of repression led by his father during the years of lead. However, he faces opposition from conservatives, which leads to the election of the Islamist PJD (Party of Justice and Development) as head of government, following the Arab Spring of 2011.

Johnny Depp: The Love of the Bizarre

Johnny Depp started off as a punk band guitarist, turning to acting to help pay the bills. But his dabbling catapulted him to global fame and there was no going back. Throughout his career, Depp has had fame and infamy in equal measure. His roles are often that of the isolated anti-hero: Edward Scissorhands, Donnie Brasco, Raoul Duke in Las Vegas Parano, and Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. His poetic outsider characters reveal a critical view of American society.

Le Nouveau Désert

This new episode of the Notebooks is entitled The New Desert (4 March 1998 to 26 November 1998). These are years of cinematographic maturity in a world that is searching for its bearings and has not found its bearings following the collapse and disappearance of the USSR and its communist satellites. It was a period of indecision and uncertainty. Are we happy? Is one unhappy? Nobody really knows. I travel, film, watch the events that come before my camera. I travel, film, watch the events that come before my camera. But I only retain the most insignificant or the most unusual, those that do not make history but are my history. My eye lingers on what others don't look at, on the banality of things, on what television and mainstream cinema ignore.

Dispatch from Przemyśl (Notes for a Democratic Europe)

February 24, 2022: Russian troops are flooding into Ukraine. After the initial shock, how do you respond? For Marine Hugonnier, it was by using her own weapons – film and images – driven by what she describes as, “a desire to create a common front and a common image”. This is her declared agenda. She takes a two-pronged approach, first travelling to the Polish border and filming once she arrives. Then, transporting supplies to Kyiv. Despite the fact these images were shot in March 2022, the troubling paradox is that they already seem to bear the weight of history. This is like a frozen moment, at the point when the war had only just become a threat rather than a reality crushing both bodies and the landscape.

Rémi doesn't take long to flirt with the young man more and more openly. Will Aboubakar give in to the insistent advances of this man whose sexuality and way of life are in every way different from his?

Gabriele Münter - Pionnière de l'art moderne

How did a young artist at the beginning of the 20th century, rejected by the Academy of Fine Arts in Germany because she was a woman, always seen in the shadow of her companion, Vassily Kandinsky, become an eminent painter in an unprecedented artistic movement? With the support of several contributors and personal writings, Gabriele Münter - Pionnière de l'art moderne, retraces the life of one of the most illustrious figures of the German expressionist movement of the Blue Rider and draws up the portrait of a singular artist, whose work, intimate and human, testifies to the complexity of her time as much as that of her own existence.
