Contracampos is the attempt to (re)build a landscape. A recreational area and a shooting range in the west of Asturies, which, between 1937 and 1943, housed a Francoist concentration camp through which thousands of Republicans passed – firstly militiamen, later guerrillas and their relatives. Sharing a leisurely observation with the viewer, the film intends to resignify that space, giving it back its political meaning. But it is not a question of showing –of filming– the invisible, but rather of showing what is missing in what exists today. What was and is no longer, not even in people's memories.

Ima, in her everlasting waiting on the seashore for the next ship breaking its nets. Both have unrecognised jobs in which duties invade them until there’s no room for their own lives. It doesn’t matter what time their phones ring. Gladys can never answer, Ima is obliged to answer at all times. They both have to leave their families behind. Spaces that are work, work that is about houses and houses that are not always homes. The memories of their experiences are intertwined in a sensory story that leads us to a question: whose hands are the ones to change the situation?

"What is registered in a diary cannot be modified, since all the facts, thoughts and idealisations written in it remain forever linked to the date noted at the beginning of each new entry. The passage of time may give it new meanings, but it can never change its content or polish the scratched corners, as the human mind is indeed capable of doing at the cost of nostalgia or oblivion. Returning to certain thoughts and places captured in the black ink of my diary puts me in front of a mirror whose reflected eyes I prefer not to look into."

Abstract, angular lines scratched directly into the unexposed 16 mm film reel tremble across the image. A camera-less film. In Murmullo, Vega has translated conversations between a group of people into abstract drawings, lines, and characters, which she has inscribed directly onto the unexposed color emulsion of the film. A transcription of sound and words into abstraction. A visual murmur.
