Inventory

135.072 frames form the audiovisual inventory of a life edited by the images. This documentary made of archival material explores what lies at the edges of the frames, what rests in the middle of the cuts, what the out of focus and the low definition hide, what stereotypes and codes veils. They are images produced over the last ten years by me and other filmmakers to superficially portrait the forced disappearance of Irina and the political activism of her mother, Blanca Díaz. I wanted to make this inventory, to classify these images, to re-edit them, in order to unveil what they are hiding, to dismantle their regime and to understand how they have crossed Blanca’s life; how to build a life that has been edited by the images.

City for sale

'City for Sale' takes an in-depth look at the lives of four Barcelona families to show how mass tourism is wiping away the city's essence and its beauty. The documentary follows its subjects for nearly two years, and over that time it becomes clear how mass tourism has marked these families' lives. Through their eyes, we see mass tourism's real impact on Barcelona's old city, the part of town that draws the largest number of tourists, but also the neighbourhood most steeped in history, culture, tradition and charm. Viewers will find it easy to connect with the stories recounted in the film, and they might even personally identify with one or more of them. The documentary is an appeal to empathy and a plea for reflection, and it reveals like never before the human face of a problem that is not only social, but also economic and political, an issue that affects a number of other "fashionable" cities like Madrid, Venice, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Rome, Prague and Paris.

This Is My Face

In Chile, people who live with HIV fear stigma and exclusion, and often conceal their condition and remain silent about what they are and have been going through. Esta es mi Cara – This is My Face explores what happens when a group of men living with the virus open up about the chronic disease that changed their life trajectories. The film follows a creative process whereby the protagonists produce photographic portraits that represent their (often painful) memories and feelings, a process that helps them challenge years of silence, shame, and misrepresentations. A lesson in the power of collaborative storytelling.

Bojayá: Caught in the Crossfire

In 2002, 79 people died when The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (FARC) launched a homemade mortar onto a church where many were hiding from crossfire between the FARC and the Paramilitaries. Leyner Palacios survived, but 28 of his family members did not. When peace between the government and the FARC was signed in 2016, after 50 years of conflict, Leyner made it his mission to ensure the peace deal was implemented to his people’s benefit, receiving a Nobel Peace Prize in the process. But, as the FARC demobilise, other armed groups seek to fill the power vacuum, and political pressure through presidential elections puts Leyner’s work, and life, at risk. Will this poster boy of peace be able to protect his family from another wave of violence?
