The word "anima" from which animation is derived, as we all know, means "to breathe life into". And "life" means "limited time" and that there could be an approach that does not include any of the aforementioned "three elements". The result of several years of exploring new methods was an "animated film" that eschews the so-called "animated" structure. Noboru is homeless and can never stay in a job for long. He strives for an independent life, away from society which takes no notice of him in his tent in the forest. This also makes it possible for him to stalk the young Kifuyu, with whom he falls in love at first sight. He has to learn that she is being exploited by her boyfriend Shigehisa with whom she rips off businessmen in search for a sexual adventure. Noboru decides to help her, but he soon realizes that escaping from social dependancies isn't easy.

The shadows of the characters, indistinct as if cast by candlelight, stimulate our vision and shake our mental landscape; are they vague memories of movies we have seen before, or vestiges of a nightmare submerged deep in our minds?

NHK undertakes a project to visualize written stories of the A-bomb victims through animation. The experience notes of the A-bomb victims which will be the base for the animation are ones sent to NHK's annual reciting, a program to read and share their experience, which have been running as long as 9 years now. A total of 2,200 notes have been sent to us so far.
