Shards of Moon

From the music of French composer Evgueni Galperine, Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan crafts a story that harkens back to the phantom rides of yore as he constructs a visual poem befitting the propulsive composition. Sabine Weiss, One Century of Photography

In nearly a century, Sabine Weiss (1924-2021) has left behind a monumental and eclectic work: thousands of faces, collections of the greatest fashion designers in prestigious magazines, a Parisian working-class now disappeared, photoreports around the world… By focusing on the margins of society, she was an exceptional witness of the 20th century. For the first time, a film draws the portrait of this hard-worker artist and captures the last words of the greatest female figure of the Humanist photography (Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson).

Samedi soir

Samedi soir (Saturday night) is an intimate, carnal and reflective dive into contemporary youth. For one night, we follow four groups of young adults of different sociology, in the four corners of the country. With their differences, these complementary groups draw the contours of French youth. In this film, we try to listen to their desires and their dreams, without losing the sincerity and the energy of their evenings. A village party, a feminist collage, the last train station, a Parisian nightclub... These young people cross and overlap, dialogue and answer each other. Each group deals with a social issue and embodies a contemporary challenge. This film is also a collective psychoanalysis, where these young people talk about their doubts, their friendships and their loves, their studies, their commitments or their work. Because Saturday night is above all a time for sharing and letting go.

Salon Spitz

Berlin, 1923: It is the first time that Minna enters a women's literary salon, invited by her friend who's already part of the scene, Edith. She aspires to become part of the salon and its circle of intellectual, empowered women. Intimidated by the self-confidence of the others, she doesn’t have the courage to step on stage. To make matters worse, Lars, a self-proclaimed poet, intrudes the intimacy of the evening. He takes over the stage without invitation to speak out against women’s right to vote and shamelessly flirts with Minna. The culmination of pressure leads Minna to the stage, to vocalize her defiance against Lars and show everyone what she is really made of.

Canicule 2003 : Paris dans la fournaise

The heatwave of 2003 remains etched in our memories. We remember an angry emergency doctor, crowded hospital corridors, and a health minister in a polo shirt who seemed completely out of touch with reality. Between August 1 and 20, 2003, the heatwave claimed 15,000 lives. One in three victims lived in the Ile-de-France region, which was hardest hit by this deadly heatwave. This tragedy revealed many shortcomings. First, the lack of preparedness of the public authorities to deal with such a health crisis. Second, the way in which the elderly are treated. Climatologists estimate that from 2050 onwards, the summer of 2003 will be the norm. Hyper-urbanization, poor insulation in homes, and a lack of green spaces are all factors that exacerbate the effects of high temperatures.
