Lena Ditte Nissen has created a series of experimental short works on analogue film, which in a personal and often elliptical and dreamy language channels a subjective view on the world through the unexpected connections that arise between image and sound. Her most recent work is a portrait, and a new variation on her method. Before the camera, we encounter the formidable 87 year-old artist Margaret Raspé who works in photography, film, drawing and other art forms. Regardless of the medium, automatisms play a significant role in her art. Nissen transcends the traditional limits of the portrait genre and has created a congenial and loving tribute to a unique creative mind.

Karten, Pfiffe, fette Bässe - Schiedsrichter Deniz Aytekin

Deniz Aytekin has been refereeing Bundesliga matches since 2008 and international matches since 2012. In 2019, he was voted "Referee of the Year" by the DFB. Players and coaches have great respect for him. No wonder: his height of 1.97 meters and his striking facial expression alone are impressive. Above all, however, Deniz Aytekin impresses with his body language and his manner on the pitch. He simply radiates a natural authority. Deniz Aytekin is also an exciting personality off the pitch - as a successful entrepreneur and amateur DJ. He deals with the stress of everyday life with electronic music and yoga.

Es is zum scheissn

The Austrian Kreisky government enforced a policy of full employment, it was not allowed to set foot on the lawn in Vienna's Burggarten, the city and the minds of the people are grey. In a nutshell: es is zum Scheissn! The Kronen Zeitung speaks the mind of the philistine bourgeoisie and tells about "drug abuse, duck murders and sex orgies", the city government reluctantly provides a youth center only to evict it subsequently, a former Nazi becomes president and Vienna is burning because of the Opera Ball demonstrations. Punk in Vienna was not different than punk anywhere else. And yet, it was. "Scheiss Kieberei" instead of ACAB, Dead Nittels instead of California über alles, "Nazis raus" by Extrem on the same compilation as "We're gonna fight" by 7 Seconds. And anyway, the band names: Chuzpe, Schund, Pöbel. The outcast kids of Helmut Qualtinger tell their own story.

Caral: Sacred City of the Andes

The Sacred City of Caral or Caral-Supe is the capital of the Norte Chico Civilization of Supe located in the Supe Valley, 200 km (124 miles) north of Lima. The Sacred City of Caral is the earliest known civilization in the Americas, it dates to the Late Archaic period. Radiocarbon analysis performed by the Caral-Supe Special Archaeological Project (PEACS) dates its development between 3000 to 1800 B.C.. It is believed that this civilization started by the merging of small villages based on trade of agricultural and fishing products. Its importance rests on the success of techniques of domestication of cotton, beans, potatoes, chilis, squash among other products. Success in agriculture was due to the development of water canals, reservoirs and terraces. They used guano, bird excrement, and anchovies as fertilizer.

Räuber in Westfalen - Neues Leben in Panzerspuren

It's an important refuge for animal and plant species and the largest heathland in North Rhine-Westphalia – yet virtually nobody knows it: the Senne. Located between Bielefeld, Detmold, and Paderborn, the Senne is home to rare insects and birds, endangered amphibians, and large herds of fallow deer. Nowhere else in North Rhine-Westphalia are there so many sand lizards. The fact that this natural paradise is known to few is due to its unique history: For 130 years, large sections of the Senne have served as a military training area. Entry to the area is strictly prohibited for civilians.

30 Jahre, aber den Sinn des Lebens habe ich immer noch nicht rausgefunden

On his 24th birthday, the private documentary filmmaker Jan Peters snapped his Super 8 camera and captured his still young life for a brief moment. Three minutes in which he looks into the camera and reports on his split between aspiring filmmaker and self-doubt. Then, abruptly - cut - because the film roll of the camera does not allow a longer shot. It is the beginning of an autobiographical experiment that, in its elliptical narrative form, creates its own condensate of life. 29 more birthday films follow: self-monologues in the bathtub, wild dance performances and discussions about the development of the technical film apparatus. Meanwhile, film professor at the Kassel Art College, Peters tells episodic stories of his childhood, love, 'having arrived' as a father and a birthday invitation to Jean-Luc Godard.

Soon It Will Be Dark

What does it mean to inhabit or occupy a landscape or a frame? To conjure up time? These are deceptively simple questions that the artist Isabell Heimerdinger gives us an opportunity to ponder in her film SOON IT WILL BE DARK. The context is a stretch of coast, a tropical place where, dotted in the background, a few old, dilapidated colonial buildings survive. A patch of countryside, half-village, half-forest, bordering the sea, and where our gaze falls on a man as the days go by, while he busies himself with his task – from one spot to another, conscientiously clearing the land around the buildings with a machete in the luxuriant undergrowth of a dense forest of majestic trees. Measured, considered, precise and respectful movements…

The history of the first socialist German state is full of experiences that can provide answers to the social and economic problems of today.
