Meine Welt ist die Musik

Christian Bruhn has virtually set the Federal Republic of Germany to music. He is one of the most successful German composers and music producers in the pop industry. Bruhn's music, on the other hand, is well known: whether it's pop songs like "Marmor Stein und Eisen bricht," theme tunes for "Heidi," "Timm Thaler," and "Captain Future," or advertising jingles from Maggi to Milka: Christian Bruhn has written more than 2,500 compositions. This documentary is the infectiously upbeat portrait of a man who has accompanied and touched people across generations with his music since the early 1960s.

Einübung ins Paradies - Nachdenken über 1989

November 9, 1989, the day the Wall came down, was one of those days when it became clear that the world had changed "immediately and without delay" once and for all. [...] But it was not only politics and the lives of many people that changed with the world, but also the way we think. And more permanently than one might think. For a long time after that evening, there were calls for a major, analytical reappraisal of what had happened. After all the talk about bananas, the German feature pages hoped for "the great German novel of the turnaround". The fact that this has not appeared in the last 30 years has to do with the fact that thinking and art have changed forever along with the world. The Absence of Apricots

A documentary fairy-tale about the struggle for identity in the Hunza Valley set in a village located in the Northern-Pakistan somewhere between the past and the future. A magnificent turquoise lake in between rough, steep cliff surrounds the small village. But the lake hasn’t been always there. One day, an enormous landslide blocked a river. In a few months, this river turned into a huge lake, which is now up to 30km long. Thousands of homes and fields were flooded. Entire villages disappeared forever. Thousands of people got dislocated and had to look for different places where to live. What is left are the stories of those that once used to live there which are passed on from generation to generation.

World on Board

Germany, as seen from the water. The landscape passes by in epic tranquillity as the audience immerses itself in the world of barge shipping. The top permitted speed for smaller watercraft is specified in the inland waterways regulations as a maximum of 15 km/h. A woman is along for the ride on Germany’s rivers and canals, with plenty of time to explore this little-known cosmos. In the end, the director dreams of a life on board and endeavours to find her place in the predominantly male domain. Welt an Bord is a hybrid of documentary and narrative film. The basic conditions are set by the limited space on the barge and the work that must be done. Kathrin Resetarits embodies the alter ego of director Eva Könnemann, while she herself takes charge of the cinematography. Together they accepted the captain’s invitation to join in this other life. What kind of life is it anyway? Resetarits/Könnemann listen and work their way through fiction and reality.

Searching for the Perfect Gentleman

"Searching for the Perfect Gentleman — an Investigative Journey" is a documentary about the search of an African barber shop poster. The virtual journey takes the viewer to various African, European and Asian countries, in order to find the place where it was originally created, produced and sold. What seems easy in the beginning turns out to be a demanding process, yet an interesting experience in accessing information, communicating with people from totally different backgrounds and indulging in uncertainty, to celebrate the search itself — wherever it may lead. The film shows how boundaries between originality and reproduction merge, in a world where everything can be remixed and reprinted easily. Searching for the Perfect Gentleman tells a multi-layered story about trust, persistence and interconnectedness in a globalized world.

Hiwwe wie Driwwe - Pfälzisch in Amerika

400,000 Americans speak Palatinate German? Douglas Madenford, born and raised in Pennsylvania, looks for traces in his homeland and the Palatinate in the documentary "Hiwwe wie Driwwe" by Benjamin Wagener and Christian Schega. Doug meets many people and learns what is left of the Palatine language and culture in America and how it has developed "hiwwe like driwwe" here in Germany and beyond in America. About 300 years ago, many people from the Palatinate fled because of political persecution and economic reasons to the United States and mainly settled in and around Pennsylvania. They also brought their language and culture to the New World. Both have largely survived to this day. In America, people still speak their variant of the Palatinate dialect: the so-called Pennsylvania Dutch.
