Strata | a performance of topography

A live-edited documentary performance that traverses a vast terrain without leaving a tiny patch of land. Each iteration is a unique call and response between a virtual landscape and documentary footage. Set in a small 3D scanned region of the Badlands of South Dakota, voices carry you from paleontology to foraging, indigenous herbalism to nuclear arms, wildlife management to cattle ranching. Strata laters histories, economics, natural sciences, deep time, and personal anecdotes within an immersive landscape that invites you into a meditation on the complex histories embedded in all lands and how profoundly human perspectives shape and define their futures.

Plunderer: The Life and Times of a Nazi Art Thief

“It’s not every day that you meet an old Nazi.” So begins American historian Jonathan Petropoulos, recalling the day in 1998 when he met Bruno Lohse, who was Hermann Göring’s art agent in Paris during World War II. In this riveting account, Petropoulos details Lohse’s role in stealing countless masterpieces from prominent French and Dutch families, while evading meaningful punishment, and continuing to deal art profitably for most of the rest of his life. This explosively compelling tale calls the international art market to task for its continuing lack of regulation.

Clementine & Sage and The Rain's Rage

5-month-old rescue kittens (and blood sisters) Clementine and Sage react to the first ever bout of heavy rain they’ve experienced. The heavy rain makes their typical boisterous and playful actions screech to a halt, as they begin to mirror the rain’s dreary, lull-like nature in their own temperaments. Ch1: The film goes from the inside of a mixing bowl catching dripping water. The kittens are hesitant at first, but soon both stare out the window (Ch2), edited as indistinguishable from one another, as they both partake in the same curiosity towards the rain. Ch3 sees the kittens find peace with their new discovery, and rest, while the world itself moves on - much like how we exit from the bowl, and end up becoming attached to the cats, the end of Ch3 sees us attached to a window, peering in, making audiences believe Ch4 would be from the perspective of the world entire. Each chapter becomes more consequential, larger, and less isolated, as if becoming privy to the world.
