Opening Doors

Ash, an impulsive student and aspiring class clown, watches his crush Elaina from the back of calculus class. Suddenly, the professor calls on him to answer a question, and Ash is awoken from his trance. He quickly covers for himself by making a joke right as class ends, but his professor asks to speak with him afterwards. Ash makes his way to the front of the room, only to find that Elaina has left her calculator behind. As he reaches for it, the professor again startles him, asking if he needs a tutor. Ash, however, has already come up with a plan of his own - to hand-deliver the calculator back to Elaina with the hope of sparking conversation with her! Lucky for him, the opportunity comes to him quicker than expected when he sees her enter an elevator back at their apartment complex. He makes his move, handing her the calculator, and all seems to be going well! Until the elevator breaks down…

We Will be After Us

Les Étoiles d'Ivry, conceived by architects Jean Renaudie and Renée Gailhoustet, presents an ideal setting for a dance film depicting the evolving relationship between two individuals through the expressive language of movement. The complex's avant-garde architecture, characterised by interconnected walkways and innovative spatial design, serves both as a backdrop and a contributor, providing dynamic spaces for the performers to interact with. Against this urban canvas, the protagonists' movements seamlessly intertwine with the geometric forms and communal areas, reflecting the complexities of human connection amidst modernist structures.

FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA

Amira, a determined 9 year old girl makes her way along the river bank to the sea shore, collecting rocks and sticks in a bucket. She's wary of the water, worried of the current taking her and her bucket, but she puts on a brave face and carries on. These fears turn into frustration as she finds herself at the beach, building sandcastles only to be washed way by unrelenting waves. She fights back and stands her ground, outsmarting the waves but is reminded that there are other things to fear.

Dis-Ease

DIS-EASE is a feature-length documentary about how we imagine disease, and how that affects what we do when we encounter illness, outbreaks, doctors, treatments, and disability in real life. It dives deep into the weird, wild archives of medical imaging, public health messaging, and pop-culture outbreak narratives to understand how ideas have moved between science, science fiction, and political ideology over the past century. (Yes, this is a film that covers both antibiotic resistance and the persistence of zombie apocalypse films.) Ultimately, DIS-EASE is a provocation to re-think how we define both the "public" and "health" in public health - who is included, what counts as care, and what it means to be sick or well in a world perpetually on the brink of collapse.
