The devastating tropical climate created strong fear and anxiety in the British troops who stationed at Hong Kong after the opium wars. The 19th Century myth of Miasma, the bad air, related epidemic diseases with air, environment and race, which later helped to consolidate the vertical segregation on Hong Kong island. Acclimatization efforts were made in pace with expansion of the British Botanic Empire, a global network of scentific researches of plants, which circulated not only botanic specimens but also images created for the purpose of study. In the particular case of Canton in South China, local commercial artists were commissioned to make plant paintings. This work examines the peculiar dynamics between imperialism, scientific research, race and the right to look in 19th Century Canton.

Observing and waiting, he looks for excitement and sometimes remains disappointed. He looks back at us and we follow him, driven by a nostalgic desire towards something in ourselves that perhaps never existed.

Belle and Bamber

They while away their youth exploring and getting into mischief, however, when Belle's Mother tires of Bamber's influence, she pressures her to grow up and forget him. Unfortunately, he isn't planning on going anywhere. As Belle is trapped between her Mother's pressure to grow up and her increasingly homicidal imaginary friend, she has to make an impossible decision. Belle and Bamber is a dark comedy about a child afraid of growing up and the dangers of psychotic imaginary friends.

Where The Light Shines Through documents the genesis and evolution of Rirkrit Tiravanija’s untitled 2018 (the infinite dimensions of smallness) for National Gallery Singapore’s Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission. From the sourcing and transformation of bamboo in Chiang Mai, to its installation in Singapore, the documentary gives rare insights into the making of the artwork. By tracing Rirkrit's thoughts and portraying his cultural and spiritual environment, it offers broader understanding of his artistic practice. Structured around three meals, from day to night, the film meditates on the differences and similarities between two cities where the work was developed.

From 4 soloists in 2001, the Annual Leah Todres Yiddish Song Festival featured 10 soloists and 120 voices singing in Yiddish on the stage of the Baxter Theatre in 2010. Originally conceived as a fund-raiser for the Cape Jewish Seniors Association, the festival took on a life of its own. The songs reached out and there was a fascinating re-engagement with both the language and the genre.
