Finding Nathan Fielder (With Jen Zhao)

Jen Zhao is a Canadian film school grad in LA with a visa that’s about to expire. She has just lost her brother (back home in Canada) to suicide, and her family urges her to come back to Calgary so they can grieve together. Instead, she does everything she can to avoid the circumstances by latching onto an obsessive belief: if she can find her idol, Canadian comedian Nathan Fielder, he will help her renew her visa and guide her through the pearly gates of Hollywood.

ButterFly

In the heart of a factory, where butterflies are born from dough and shaped in molds, a profound tale unfolds. Each caterpillar dreams of metamorphosis into a butterfly. Through a journey that involves sizzling frying pans and scorching hot oil, they yearn for that ephemeral moment when wings unfurl, and they take flight. These creatures, emerging from the depths of fryers like divine beings, elegantly anticipate the future generations that will follow in their graceful flight. Braided Sand

What if the rock could be a lens? And if it’s not a question of if, but when? Braided Sand engages the geologic materiality of imaging and communication technologies. There is no lens without sand, which itself is the result of millions of years of geologic activity. Filmed at a sand mine, a glass factory, and a nanotech laboratory, the film moves between observation and abstraction, juxtaposing human and geologic timescales, plunging the viewer into churning industrial environments to lay bare the weighty earthly bases of seemingly invisible and immaterial infrastructures.

This Machine Rising

Dropkick Murphys met Woody Guthrie’s daughter Nora over 20 years ago, collaborating on songs like 2003’s “Blackout” and 2005’s “I’m Shipping Up To Boston,” which were written around unrecorded lyrics by Woody Guthrie. The band always intended to revisit the Guthrie archive and create more songs, but didn’t get the chance until April 2022. They recorded two albums, ‘This Machine Still Kills Fascists’ (2022) and ‘Okemah Rising’ (2023), in Tulsa, Oklahoma, going fully acoustic for the first time as a tribute to Guthrie. The project also led to their first seated theater tour. “This Machine Rising” tells the story of Dropkick Murphys’ journey with Woody Guthrie’s lyrics, focusing on the Tulsa sessions, the theater tour, and the enduring power of music and words to unite the working class and promote equity.

La Ragazza Con Il Cappello Rosso

In keeping with the “voices from the beyond the grave” motif seen in A View From a Forgotten Grave, La Fleur du Diable, etc. Sidd Web Productions brings a similar experimental horror art film sans actors — La Ragazza con il Cappello Rosso (The Girl in the Red Hat.) While this very short work was inspired by Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s painting The Two Sisters (On the Terrace,) the film is not so much narrative driven as much as it is an exercise in atmosphere. Features voiceover by Italian cinema veteran Silvia Collatina (Lucio Fulci’s House by the Cemetery, Sergio Martino’s The Great Alligator.) A secondary purpose of the film is to document the largely forgotten (and empty) Bickley Crypt in Bensalem, PA.
