That Alien, Sound

In writer/director Brando Topp’s endearing feature debut, an alien sound wave takes over a woman's body through a radio broadcast, leaving her disbelieving boyfriend struggling to comprehend her new identity and save their relationship. Modern gender roles, acceptance of diversity, community support and rolling with the punches of a modern relationship are just some of the themes the young indie auteur addresses in this one-of-a-kind slice of eccentric scifi/rom/com existentialism, featuring a fearlessly funny and heartfelt performance by the great Mia Danelle as ‘Sound’.

#Love

Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s scandalous drama Reigen and Chantal Akerman’s famous film Tout en Nuit, the viewer witnesses a modern cycle of love. The film portrays fleeting moments of happiness and disappointment: a young woman talks about her non-binary existence. We observe another woman who, after long years of marriage, finally leaves her home to embark on her first romantic adventure in a hotel room with a “blind date”. This is followed by a drunken drive home for a couple, whose nighttime outing ends in a dark landscape. To be continued!

The 1957 Transcripts

The film delves into an almost forgotten event that took place in Kfar Qasim in October 1956, when 47 innocent civilians were shot and killed by Israeli Border Police soldiers. Through a gripping narrative structure, like a suspenseful legal drama, the film unfolds the historical, political, and psychological reality that shaped and triggered the event. A cinematic montage created by the intertwined plotlines, emphasizes immense gaps, conflicting narratives, and deep divides between Jews and Arabs who are destined to live together on the same land. If we begin to recognize these gaps, will there be hope for reconciliation?

Tell Me Why These Things Are So Beautiful

Brother Marie-Victorin was 46 when he met 23-year-old Marcelle Gauvreau. Both have been close to death and share the same love of God and Nature. He becomes her teacher, later she becomes his assistant. Their friendship evolves. Marie-Victorin offers Marcelle different readings on sexuality that she hastens to comment on from her own intimate experiences. In an epistolary exchange that will last until the death of Marie-Victorin, they explore human desires and "biology without a veil". This great chaste love, the love of Quebec's flora, pushes them to question their own relationship with love and Nature.
