It's Possible!

Dopévi, Yema, Magnim, Akouvi and Rafiétou are professional tailors. As hearing-impaired people, however, they hardly have a chance on the Togolese labour market. Fortunately, Jeanine Kinvi became aware of them. She decided to found the tailoring shop HAN DESIGN and hired the five women. It was not always easy, but it soon became clear that all the efforts had paid off. For the first time, the seamstresses feel appreciated and properly understood. The colleagues have long since become friends who are there for each other and now want to help other hearing-impaired people.

Bodies and Places are Contiguous

Earth’s surface cuts across every one of us, it traverses our bodies in the shape of a tube, challenging distinctions between the inside and the outside, the body and the world, self and nonself. Bodies And Places Are Contiguous is a visual experiment, an effort to attend to the recurrent cylindrical formations that permeate human bodies, our technology, our parasites, and most of our cities’ infrastructures. Through a focus on form, the project seeks to generate unexpected connections between categories often seen as entirely separate from each other. The connections that emerge from the repeated attention to tubes are also seen as a challenge to traditionally bounded understandings of the human, the body, and the world. In the film, as inside of any tube, perspective is lost, there is no up nor down, inside or outside, just a dizzying encounter with sameness. Music score improvised by Marina Peterson and Cassius Walker.

Et Tu, Rob?: The Play: The Movie

Moments before the curtains rise on their high school’s production of Julius Caesar, Rob (Brutus) accidentally stabs Wyatt (Caesar) backstage. Rob and his best friend Craig (Cassius) must then try to get Wyatt ready for the show, or -if things don’t work out- hide the body and find a replacement. Before the night is over, they’ll have to deal with a lovesick Casca, a sledgehammer-wielding Antony, and a stray Nick Bottom who has been kidnapped from the rival high school’s Midsummer. The filmed version of the Shakespeare in the Dark production of “Et Tu, Rob?” combines the best elements of live theatre, film, and streaming to bring the "cultural" "phenomenon" to homes around the world for a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Last Days of Summer

They have partied through their 20s. Now, Tamara, Ponek and Sierzput have to figure out what to do with their lives. Tamara is a feminist, but also a hopeless romantic. Sierzput has just won his girlfriend back, but is struggling to hold on to her. And out of sheer boredom, Ponek has broken her own rule number one and has started sleeping with her friends. Three lives, intertwined in a fog of cigarette smoke and canned beer during a long summer in concrete-grey Warsaw, where the desire to party to the early hours is never far away. The Danish director Karl Forchhammer’s film is an entertaining and existential tale with raw edges.

Sakha Tyla: How to teach a machine to understand Sakha

How do you save a language that has not been spoken for a whole generation? It’s essential to use the language in chat rooms, in creating movies, blogs, and rap, and to generally use it more often on the Internet. Alexey Ivanov is an enthusiast who understood this and approached Yandex with the idea of making an online translator from the Sakha language. The task that engineers solved many times with other languages turned out to be more difficult and interesting. In addition to technology, this project needed a protagonist.
