Bounded Intimacy

Bounded Intimacy (part of the trilogy of Super 8mm shorts It’s Just Business, Baby) examines the histories of various forms of body labor across the Chelsea and Tribeca districts, renowned as a sites for sex work, sex clubs and illicit sexual activity. Bounded Intimacy explores the seduction of a nameless woman and the camera. The relationship between the two remains unknown and ambivalent as to whether or not the encounter is “authentic.” The nature of their relationship is irrelevant as the camera captures the authenticity of the desire in the encounter between the two. Josh Blue: Freak Accident

Buckle up! Josh Blue is back at it to tell you about the most embarrassing part of his crushing defeat on Americas Got Talent—and his plan to win next time! Filmed in his hometown of Denver, Blue gives the audience a lesson in how comedy works. He’s a single dad with one good arm and 50% custody of two pre-teens: you do the math! Blue skates the line on topics ranging from his campaign to fix this country’s acid reflux problem to his way with animals. Through his mix of well-crafted jokes and improv, Blue takes some risks with his girlfriend, explains the miracles of botox, and tells the audience how to eat a sandwich. He’s been watching a lot of serial killer documentaries and he’s got a few thoughts on his own death. Blue is well known for his intricate lattice work of call backs and his sardonic, yet charming, self-deprecating humor. He calls out Joe Rogan, Bill Cosby, and homophobic senators in his laugh-a-minute fifth comedy special. Oh yeah, and he still has cerebral palsy.

The Sitters

A pet sitter comes to watch a cat for the first time. He finds a list of cat-sitting duties in a puddle on the counter next to a spilt glass of water. The writing on the list has blurred and is illegible. As he begins to do the tasks, The Cat follows him around leaving inky black trails. The Cat scratches him, licking the blood from his claw. Nervous and hurt, The Sitter goes to clean the litter box where he finds a bone buried. He looks up what kind of bone it is, discovering it is a human tibia. The Cat then transforms into a terrifying monster, throwing The Sitter from the couch and the phone from his hand where it hits the ground and accidentally calls The Owner. The Owner, now on speaker, say they cannot help. The Cat bites off The Sitter's hand and after a cat-and-man chase scene, The Cat swallows down The Sitter and returns to his normal cat shape.

Re:Growth

The hearing community has, through the course of history, treated the Deaf community as a particularly undesirable species of weed. Hearing aids, cochlear implants, speech education, the marginalization of signed languages, sterilization programs, and now even the use of CRISPR gene splicing technology, are all attempts to remove or correct the Deaf weeds in humanity’s garden. Crab theory is a major and ongoing discussion in the Deaf community due to the intensity of the internalized oppression felt by group insiders who have often been intentionally isolated from their peers and language models. This poem uses the metaphor of unwanted weeds as a way to process that history and reframe the community as a stubbornly resilient population, capable of growth and beauty.
