Alice Down Wonderland

The great, increasing intensity of the film results from an interaction of the actress and camera not yet attempted in this way. The phases of emotions of a life lived through in a few minutes - the theme that the film has posed - are completely expressed. Time-lapse and delay immediately express the external process, the performer adequately succeeds in demonstrating the internal processes. Interesting are the nuances with which the color scheme follows the development of the idea. This applies here in a special way also from the acoustic processing.

The Lonely Heart

Antoñito is a bachelor who works in a cabaret as a clarinetist. He has put an advertisement in the newspaper, looking for a good and honest girl, and to which responds Rocío, who escapes from her native Córdoba to hide the embarrassment of her pregnancy. The coexistence with the naive clarinetist, who refuses the insinuations of a co-worker dedicated to prostitution, who idolizes his deceased mother and keeps as a relic the orthopedic leg of his late father, is not easy. The other men will tend their ties around Rocío, that makes way in the world of the spectacle pretending to be blind. When she can no longer conceal that she is pregnant, Antoñito decides to give his name to the fruit of sin.

Mit der Liebe spielt man nicht

Hotel manager Lis has loved the doctor Dr. med. Peter Arco since her childhood, who could theoretically be her father, still sees a child in her and is also the best friend of her brother Georg. Since Peter lives alone as a confirmed bachelor, Lis thinks of a ruse. She claims to be pregnant, but to have long since left the father of the unborn child. Georg, who wants to run for mayor in the next election, could cost his almost secure position with an illegitimate child in the family. Lis convinces him that one of his best friends should be willing to marry her for a contractually agreed short period of time and then divorce her again after the child is born. She suggests Peter, of whom she has a portrait, to whom she talks secretly. Georg persuades Peter to marry Lis and he stands by his friend ...

Night 'n' Day

First of all, the music. The music in Night and Day by Gianni Castaglioni is in the repetitive rhythm of the images, usually very rapid (with some suddenly slowed down, figements, yet with a fiery intensity). And as each shot, (brief like those of Mekas or Brakhage), moves,; as the camera moves to the nervous rhythm of a wrist, the music becomes a sort of Free Jazz — and not only visually, since the soundtrack is composed of piano frenzies à la Elton John. The extreme close-ups that sprinkle this sort of intimate journal and which are among the most admirable - as well as the most rapid - ever made in cinema, don’t float adrift like the film’s music through a hundred flowing veins.

Roulement, rouerie, aubage

This reel consists of three short films, two in black and white and one in color, that treat of a water wheel on the Sorgue. The essence of the work rests on a series of cross-references that are set up between the operational mechanisms of the filmed object and the recorded characteristics foregrounded by the choice of film stocks and filming circumstances. The title reflects the process involved. Roulement = rotation, rouerie = wiliness, aubage = paddle wheel unit. - Film Makers' Coop

Greta Garbo

Produced in Italy in 1974, Anna Baldazzi’s Greta Garbo is a 30-minute color short that embarks on a singular quest: a journey through the streets of New York in search of the legendary screen icon. Far from a traditional documentary, the film serves as a personal exploration of the filmmaker’s own relationship with the city, navigated through a lens of irony and farce. Baldazzi engages in a playful, dialectical game with the concept of stardom; her stated objective is to "destroy the myth" of the diva, yet she achieves a striking paradox. By maintaining the total absence of Greta Garbo for the entire duration of the film, the legend is not erased, but rather powerfully re-established through its own void.
