This bizarre parody of the animated religious children’s show Davey and Goliath uses actors but looks like Claymation because of the stop motion, distorted voices, giant prosthetic ears and hair and sets that make Pee-Wee’s Playhouse look realistic. Davey’s father whips him with a belt for saying that he saw a bear, though he really did see a bear, while his sister looks on in glee. His dog Goliath, actually a leopard-skin footrest with a grotesque tail, tries to help but gets whipped too. Oedipal dream sequences and Davey’s revenge are also highlights in this unforgettable and darkly hilarious suburban nightmare.

Brooklyn Nights

Paco, a poor street hunchback lives in an improvised shelter under the Brooklyn Bridge. In order to survive, Paco carves wood figurines, trading them for food for him and his faithful dog. But on one cold, dark and violent Brooklyn night, Paco witnesses an art theft and is promptly run over by the thug's van. Later in the hospital, a lovely nurse, who takes care of Paco, appreciates his figurines and decides to introduce Paco to her friend, an art dealer. Unfortunately, the dealer recognizes Paco as the only witness to her well organized crime of art theft. A nail-biting finale ends this extraordinary story.

In 1692 Salem, Ann Putnam accuses those who have angered her of witchcraft; they are tried and put to death. In 1980, Loreen Graham is on a school outing to the Salem Witch Museum when a wax figure of a man from 1692 comes to life and accosts her. It seems that she may be the reincarnation of Ann, who had accused the man's 5-year-old daughter of witchcraft and the girl is scheduled to be burned at the stake. Loreen must fight against Ann's possession and confront the corrupt 17th century minister consorting with Ann to falsely accuse people of witchcraft.

In Burma on the penultimate day of World War II, Cameron Highlander Lachlan 'Lachie' MacLachlan is seriously wounded and transported to a local military hospital. He seems to have recovered from his wounds but appearances can be deceiving. The hospital commander asks nursing Sister Margaret Parker and the five remaining soldiers in her ward to befriend Lachie as he is dying and has only a few weeks to live. Lachie, who is not aware of his prognosis, is a proud man who wants no help from anyone. Slowly however, relationships are formed and Lachie begins to appreciate friendship, something he has never had with anyone.

Transcending Mirror Boundaries

Episode six in a series of eight short films produced for TV, that sadly was never transmitted. Filmmaker Jon Coley reduced costs by taking on the starring roles, performing both innocent man and evil doppelganger. Jon chose an atmospheric Brian Eno soundtrack to perfectly meld with the action, which was shot in 1981 on location at Prestatyn's High Street and seafront. Coley's mother, Shirley, fully supported her son's endeavours, acting as cameraperson in this film. Jon Coley's inspiration came from watching cult TV series such as 'The Outer Limits', 'The Invaders' and Patrick McGoohan's 'Danger Man'. (BFI)

A feuding but very wealthy married couple are planning their divorce while relaxing at luxury hotels in Yugoslavia. The husband decides he wants to get rid of his wife, so hires a hitman. However his wife also has the same planned for her husband, seducing one of her many lovers into doing the job. Should these attempted murders not succeed, the husband will have to carry on being blackmailed by his wife for his incestuous affair with his 16 year old daughter. Since the daughter has her own lethal romantic agenda, things don't go quite as planned.

Much as in similar found footage soliloquies by Péter Forgács, Jay Rosenblatt and Ken Jacobs, director Roger Deutsch wrings unexpected pathos from mundane traces of the past. Children mug for the camera with dances of the day, upright mothers march their strollers up the avenue, men smoke, the family gathers around the table to light the candles. The bare title cannot help but raise the specter of contemporaneous events in Europe, lending an extra degree of urgency to the film's meditation on disappearance. - Max Goldberg

Mark and Dan Jury document the gradual demise of a community nestled within the Cuyahoga National Recreation Area between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio, as the National Park Service works to acquire the land of ~500 residents in order to establish a National Park. After initially being told only a handful of houses would be taken, residents are shocked by hundreds of homes and businesses being bought up, boarded up, and posted No Trespassing - and by the homes of the politically connected being spared. Significant portions of this film appeared in the PBS FRONTLINE episode For the Good of All.
