The Sense of Tuning

The Sense of Tuning is a portrait of the architect Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai, conceived like a sketch made on the fly, captured in the vibrancy of movement and of the moment. Nothing of a hagiographic portrait giving a fixed image of the man and his work, the film explores the fragile, precious material of the architect’s sensibility with rare spontaneity, shedding light on how his perception of the emotion of space is nurtured. Conceived as a performative cinematic experience, this film captures the alchemy of a day-long encounter between Bijoy Jain and Bêka & Lemoine – twelve hours of intense wandering, plunging us into the vital energy of the streets of Mumbai. Visual notes made in the intimacy of the studio, observations of informal tactics of the city and visits to production sites, the film reveals how closely Bijoy Jain’s work is tied to the city of Mumbai, providing endless resources and inspiration. A sensory film where gesture becomes the language of intuition.

Hugo Hercules and The Wild West - The Artist W.H.D. Koerner (Deutsch)

Together with graphic designer Tim Eckhorst, filmmaker Martina Fluck goes in search of traces of the important German-American comic pioneer, illustrator and Western painter W.H.D. Koerner, who was born in Schleswig-Holstein in 1878 and emigrated to the USA with his family in 1881. In 1902, W.H.D. Koerner created the first superhero "Hugo Hercules" in Chicago. At the same time, he began his career as an illustrator for important contemporary novels and discovered his love of the "Wild West". Around 2,000 of his oil paintings are published as illustrations in popular magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post and books. He became an important illustrator and painter of the Western genre. To this day, his paintings characterise the global visual memory of the so-called "Wild West", as they also serve as models for the sets and costumes of the first Hollywood western films.

vista in the sky

An incisive and disturbing meditation, vista in the sky involves the viewer in a journey to the dark heart of contemporary society’s ambitions of growth and success under capitalism. The meditation is guided by Dhātu-Ba'dan*, a spiritual healer named after an ancient Himyarite goddess of the oasis and worshiped at tree-circled pools. Dhātu-Ba'dan was said to forbid any invocation to her without a priestess in her sanctuary, employing a khalimah (i.e. 'Dreamer') who would sleep to receive an oracle in the form of a prophetic dream. Today, tarot card readers take on this mediating role, inhabiting the damp, leaky corners of the web and using network technology to mediate the relationship with their earnest followers.

Oído odio

A neighborhood anecdote that occurred during the pandemic inspires this reflection on the space of violence generated by the scope of hate as a social construct in its relationship with the image and its representation. Confronting the forms that the hatred with which we live takes on through the images of the assault on Rodney King, George Floyd and two immigrant women in Madrid and in the Barcelona metro, this bold work proposes different languages to represent, think . and interpret the textures of hate that surrounds us and the emotions they produce.

Hamas Attack on the Festival - The Survivors of the Desert Rave

The montage also makes it clear: The Hamas attack also marked the beginning of a new era in the dissemination of images and news through the media.

Chemsex: accros au sexe sous drogues

Sexuality drugged to the point of addiction? What once seemed marginal is no longer so. The practice of chemsex is no longer confined to gay men. Chemsexers, former chemsexers, Parisian elected representatives, healthcare professionals and community activists all agree that it's time to tackle the issue head-on. Chemsex hides the consumption of stimulating and euphoric substances designed to facilitate, prolong or enhance sexual relations through their psychoactive effects (such as cathinones, including 3-MMC, but also GHB and GBL). Without taboos, thanks to the strength of courageous and intimate testimonials, this film aims to give a concrete understanding of what chemsex is: from the first time to regular practice, from the first effects to the impact on an entire life. It also highlights the methods and help available to deal with addiction and regain control of one's sexuality.

Spring is Spring also in Town

Two men are driving through the streets of Milan to transport a mysterious box. Their route is the source of other routes, which reveal an awareness of the city that was previously dormant. An awareness that is given to the viewer by the stories of the two men, now presented: Leonetto Di Ciolo and Felice Trovati. Felice is also the builder of a particular object, the Revisionist Bicycle, a pendulum clock constructed from bicycle parts that can alter the passage of time. We discover that it is precisely this totem that is the object transported at the beginning of the film, and that the two protagonists are on a mission: to place the bicycle-clock in a specific spot in the city, because Spring, understood as a form of endurance of wonder for apparently useless things, is Spring also in the city.

The Animal Thing

The Animal Thing charts the struggles of Andrew Linzey, a cantankerous and unwilling subject for his son Adam. This is the story of a man who spoke out as a progressive voice in the Anglican Church, a polarizing force at the University of Oxford, and as a tireless campaigner for animal rights, on a range of issues from fox hunting and seal clubbing, to vivisection. Today, Andrew considers himself a failure. But despite the immense price he has paid for confronting the cruelty of animal exploitation, Andrew has also had an enormous and, until now, largely unheralded impact on the modern animal movement.

Laura Lexx: Mother(figure)

It’s 5 years since Laura’s critically acclaimed show 'Trying', her searingly honest, achingly funny experience of depression and trying for a baby. Since then she’s written another hit show, published two books, conquered TV comedy, created two hit podcasts, oh, and gained zero babies (unless you count the dog, which no one does). In this brand new show Laura explores life in the continuation of being childless; trying to be body positive about a body you loathe and trying not to get too attached to pigeons.
