Good morning Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is the city that never sleeps, the start-up nation par excellence, the most secular and cosmopolitan of all the cities in the Middle East. Its dynamism manages to combine the memory of the past with the unstoppable ambition to offer itself every day to change, to bet, to the future. The question is: is Tel Aviv the vanguard of an Israel to come, or is it just a small island - a "bubble" as they say - within a country in constant conflict with its neighbors and beyond.

Two Headed Mountain

The Matterhorn is among the highest mountains in the Alps. It overlooks Breuil-Cervinia village in Italy and Zermatt in Switzerland, two well-known tourist destinations. The cities, divided by the mountains, have always been connected by winter sports enthusiasts and professionals. In 2020, the Covid19 pandemic broke the balance. In Switzerland, the new rules of access to the facilities have not prevented people from experiencing the mountains. In Italy, the total closure has annulled tourism. A new paradoxical normalcy, symbolizing a human condition of inner conflict, which in times of difficulty shows itself more clearly. In the Swiss part, tourists adapt to new behaviors with daily habits. In the Italian part, instead, deprived of the human element, the pylons, the Christmas lights, and the ski lifts become natural objects; snowcats, iron giants lost in time, working for months for no one, with a wandering melancholy.

Double

Double works as a night receptionist in a hotel, and he is a theater actor. The company he is a part of is rehearsing a comedy. Double also has a special power: the power of invisibility. Thanks to this ability, he spends all his free time following others, coming into contact with the less visible sides of their lives and their personalities. He follows his fellow actors and spies on the customers of the hotel where he works. Except for theater and hotel work, Double has no social life, nor does he have friends. One evening, he uses his invisibility power to attend the theater rehearsals. When the actors begin to rehearse the scene, what happens leaves him bewildered: played from start to finish, without his parts, the scene works just as well. Double comes out lost and disoriented. Was it perhaps the answer he was looking for? He ends up staying invisible and completely withdrawing from his own life.

Radiant Exposures—Facts Run on Light Beams These Days

The new 16mm film Radiant Exposures—Facts Run on Light Beams These Days (the latter part of the title quotes from Donna Haraway) returns to Rosa Barba’s long-standing motif of the desert and its exploration of modern archives as a manifestation of human’s desire for progress. As in previous films, Radiant Exposures—Facts Run on Light Beams These Days appears to portray a site out of time and space—ethereal, timeless and unearthly. The predominant motif of the film is the human-made landscape with large expanses of rectangular panels reflecting the sun light. These reflective panels are in fact concentrating sunlight, creating and collecting energy. The presence of the sun is made palpable by the shimmering light and the and the blurring of the imagery.

Laramie, Italia

In 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming, United States, Matthew Shepard, a twenty-two-year-old student, is attacked by two peers in an act of a homophobic nature. Dying, he is transported to the hospital, where he dies a few days later, shaking public opinion overseas and beyond. Starting from a true crime story that really happened, director Martina Arrigoni transposes to the big screen the rehearsals of the play "The Seed of Violence - The Laramie Project" by Moisés Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project directed by Ferdinando Bruni and Francesco Frongia, produced by Teatro Elfo Puccini, where eight actors bring about sixty characters to the stage, bringing to life the words and thoughts of the Laramie community as they question their own responsibility for what happened to the boy, in a rehearsal journey that evolves to the present day in Milan.

Five Men, A Diary Beyond the Stage

It was 2008. Antonio was filming his colleagues with an amateur camera in the dressing rooms of the show he was starring in. The tapes were forgotten for over ten years before becoming this film. Here, what was filmed instinctively becomes a moving, unfiltered diary, revealing the fragilities, doubts, joys and difficulties of acting. The dressing rooms appear as the other side of the stage: an intimate place where actors free themselves from their masks.
