She captured documentary footage of activities such as logging, hunting, ginseng digging, fishing, and more, using video mediums like 16mm film, digital camera, drone, and GoPro. Throughout this process, the artist not only experienced the changing seasons of nature but also encountered immense challenges posed by extreme weather conditions, particularly the harsh cold, which tested her physical and mental resilience as well as the filming process itself. The film A Darkness Shimmering in the Light portrays the frozen Songhua River as a gateway to a journey through time and space. By integrating segments from ethnography of Siberia and the Xing'an Mountains, Northeastern literature, and folklore into the documentary footage, the artist constructs a series of fictional ecological narratives.

Our Childhood
This is the first film in a series of works by the artist to engage with ways of coming to knowledge of the ecosystems of language. Its Chinese title translates directly as "the sky rained grain," the phrase used by the legendary Cangjie to describe the creation of Chinese characters, as recorded in the Huainanzi. Its first short film, but this is the language we met in, is where trees, teeth, and spoken words cross beyond the threshold of re-relating. Many elements in the film are of a learning process, of a word’s relation to language, a language’s expression to another, of wood in room returning to tree in soil, of teeth evoking bone memories — its 400 million year evolution from fish scales, of working together, and of a new story revealing itself. Instead of coming to terms with or tracing the complexity of a loss, the series proposes a different position in relation to the pain of losing.

To Live
In the mid-1990s, the Yuanmingyuan Artist Village dissolved, and artists resettled in Songzhuang's Xiaopu Village in the eastern suburbs of Beijing. The affordable living conditions and relatively free creative environment attracted independent artists from all over China. They arrived with utopian dreams and a thirst for artistic freedom, surviving and creating in the name of art, and developing a unique way of life. Over time, more flocked to the area, leading to the emergence of related industries and small businesses. Streets, shops, taverns, artist studios, and village residences formed a complex network. Over the course of more than a decade, Xiaopu Village transformed from a handful of artists to China's largest art community, with a population of over ten thousand. The cohabitation and interactions with indigenous peoples, local government, and commercial capital, all contributed to Songzhuang's distinctive artistic ecology and made it a microcosm of China's transitional era.
