Carlo, a young photographer, is making love with his girlfriend at the beach when he witnesses a murder being feebly staged to look like a car accident. Carlo takes incriminating shots of the murderers (the victim turns out to be the local public prosecutor) and attempts to sell them to various interested parties, including a gangster and a newspaper owner. In 19th-century Montenegro, the free mountain territories are surrounded by Turkish forces, isolated from the West and steeped in conservatism, patriarchy, and superstition. Morlak, a poet and bishop inspired by the historical figure Petar II Petrović Njegoš, leads his tribe in resisting the invaders. Gravely ill, he is sent to southern Italy in search of a cure. The story of a certain Alberto Califano who has not visited his friend Bartolomeo Ciaccia for several years. When he meets him, he learns that the man is now at the end of his life. Bartolomeo has a sister, Carolina, who takes care of him and tries to fulfill all his wishes. The sick man makes himself hateful with his behavior, and his friend finds himself having to play different roles to meet the needs of the sick man. In the end, it is Alberto himself who is struck by a confidence that Bartolomeo reveals to him, deceived by his friend's disguise. In fact, he learns that his eldest son was born from his wife's relationship with Bartolomeo.

The Torturer

The gorgeous young actress Ginette auditions for the lead role in the first long feature film of the controversial artist Alex Sherba and she's almost immediately submitted to a long series of harassing questions and indecent proposals. Alex quickly turns out to be a mentally unstable and potentially dangerous man, and when she finds an earring belonging to a missing friend of hers, Ginette even suspects that he might be a killer and starts her very own private investigation. Meanwhile, the torturing of other poor girls cheerfully continues in the dungeon of Alex' parental house.
