Follows the journey of a spirited Nepali village girl on her pursuit to being a world-recognized mountain runner. Growing up in a remote mountain village in Nepal, Mira always dreamed of being successful in sport despite all the challenges that she & other Nepali girls face. After running away from home, Mira joined the Maoist army until as a young adult, she traveled the long distance to Kathmandu to try her luck. Out of money, she was about to return home to her village, when by chance on a morning run, she meets another runner who tells her about a long running race in the local hills. She wins it and soon begins to realize her tough mountain village upbringing has prepared her perfectly for this sport.

As a result of a secret political compromise between the Chinese and British Governments the Walled City was destroyed in 1992. This decision resulted in the displacement of the Walled City's 40,000 residents. The documentary gives the story of modern day Hong Kong from a personal viewpoint and shows historical links to a place the authorities preferred to forget.

The Ghost Festival takes place during the seventh lunar month. The gates of hell are opened to free the hungry ghosts who wander the world seeking food. During this month, Chinese pay tribute to their ancestors and offer food to the deceased to appease them and ward off bad luck. In Hong Kong, besides staging ceremonies to honor the dead, many Taoist organizations also give away rice to the elderly and the poor. The rice distribution depicted in this film was one of the largest events, and attracted over eight thousand people. The event was scheduled to last from nine in the morning to six in the evening. In order to ensure a place in the line, most of the participants arrived before dawn.

More than a decade has passed, and people have changed, but fans still remember Beyond’s works. There is no gorgeous packaging or pretentious attitude, but every song can touch people’s hearts.

Part-Time Moon documents a fantasy of an artificial moon that is created inside the artist’s studio. The film is initiated from glazing over on a filmmaking tool. Compare to the real moon, the part-time moon carries an anthropomorphic character: it moves, changes luminosity and color on its own. The camera chases after this organic moon from far to close. It dances, playing hide-and-seek with the camera. The film takes the apparatus usually behind the camera back to the front of the lens, producing a visual-driven narration which is out of the norm.

Li Bing is a Buddhist nun who has worked for years to set up schools for local children in ethnically-Tibetan regions. In September 2016, she helped set up the Songhe Mani Tent School and hired two teachers, Gan Ge and Lhamo. The local incarnate Buddhist Lama has problem with their behaviors. In March 2017, as the new semester starts, the villagers come up with all sorts of excuses to demand that Lhamo be removed as teacher at the school. As Lhamo is forced to leave, Li Bing decides to remove Gan Ge too, as well as all the tents that serve as the school’s dormitory.

A documentary or travelogue about China 2017

One day in the 70s, at the Northern New Territories.  Under the brazing sun, the sound of cicadas intertwined with the rotten smell near the train tracks. The five youngsters could not dismiss the summer blues. They pushed the weeds and stepped on the squirming maggots. They found a decaying dead body trapped under the burning sun. It was oozing a foul stench.  They covered their nose and vomited. Hearing the train whined, the youngsters made up their minds.  Even though they did not have much, they answered the call from the syrup and caffeine. They added colour to their lives with a pinch of salt onto the transparent White Cloud, and they dashed in full strength and leaped up.

When I first took up this Super 8 camera, I knew I was about to leave my home. Too Long Ago, Not Far, shot between 2019 to 2023, alludes to the Huaying Tongyu [華英通語, meaning: interchangeable expressions between Chinese and English, first published in 1867 in New York], the earliest English textbook for Chinese people that uses Cantonese phonetic notation to teach the pronunciation of English words. This seamless editing mode offers me the base to record everything in the city as notations, things that I want to look at over and over again. Perhaps by the time I go back, nothing changes, everything remains the same. As the Chinese saying goes, horse keeps on running, and people keeps on dancing.

With lots of vibrant colors and different shape patterns, Fab-rics delivers the audience a visually pleasing experience by changing the fabric’s pattern according to the soundtrack created.

Appearance, hormone, sex appeal. When we are tired of everything about these, all we want to do is break, demolish, and destroy. With crazy cut-out animation, this film is trying to release us with the strong beat of the song and search for revenge in a chaotic but unique world.

Taking us from Hong Kong's 1997 handover from British rule into Chinese administrative control, all the way to 2019, when a controversial extradition bill is greeted with massive street protests, this urgent film beds in with Hong Kong's pro-democracy demonstrations, offering a frontline portrait of four young protesters through a year of struggle. We see their hopes for a freer life and feel their fears as the authorities crack down. Pulse-racing scenes bring the viewer to street level, where peaceful protest is met with fury and tear gas. Clear-eyed about the complications and contradictions that come with a movement that changed Hong Kong forever, Hong Kong: City on Fire is a brave document of troubled times.

Hyacinthine Scar condenses the undigested emotions in me while traveling from Hong Kong to my brother’s wedding in Guam. Presences and gazes of all sorts, to look and to be looked at, repetitive camera work of the hired videographers, the vow that is rehearsed over and over again by the priest, all the uncontrollable clickings of the shutter from all us (including myself), and the endless sightings of different sides of the fragmented Western Pacific. The many spots I visited appear as though they belong to passersby. They are as real as they are dreamy.

A love story about a man-woman encounter in Australia

The Price of Justice is a documentary film that follows four women as they try to pursue cases against their former employers. Taken into kafkaesque circumstances, these workers spend their days in waiting rooms, long queues and tribunals in a frustrating attempt to get access to justice. This documentary is my latest collaboration with Rights Exposure for Hong Kong Federation of Domestic Workers and has the support of the International Labour Organisation.

In Hong Kong, a stranger wanders and films frantically monologuing next to her camera. Through the windows of the buildings she penetrates the intimacy of the flats, in the streets she lingers over unknown faces, swallowed by the city she seeks to record what exceeds her. It’s after founding a kaleidoscope on the ground that she meets the man with tattoos - he is haunted by a fight.

The timeline and vertical aspect ratio of social media set the formal parameters for Tiffany Sia’s essay film, which follows the image trail of a single event in Hong Kong from the 2019 protests. Reckoning with this event, a relentless voiceover reframes archival media salvaged in the midst of disappearance and erasure, drawing upon a traumatic media memory, summoning ghosts and occult forces alongside disinformation and rumor.

A day in the life of a building. Busy people, curiosity and incomprehension.

Ngau Tau Kok Estate is one of the oldest and largest public housing projects in Hong Kong. Most of the residents are either elderly and live alone, or working class families. Since 2001, after the government announced its plan to redevelop the area, residents have been gradually relocated to new housing estates. Following two social workers who work with the residents as they deal with the relocation, the film offers is a glimpse of the lives of old people. It is a group portrait of our parents and grandparents.

Personal moments are lost in film cuttings or disappear into a coloured fog only to suddenly reappear in a new constellation. This is the visual richness of Highview: four, partially overlapping, 16mm images that fully coalesce into a colourful abstract painting, but also often create a narrative as an exploded montage.

Yanzhi meets the handsome E Qiuzhun and is attracted to him. When this is revealed to her friend Madam Wong's lover Su Jie, he masquerades as E Qiuzhun and steals into Yanzhi's house at night, attempting to take liberties with Yanzhi. Yanzhi rebuffs Su Jie, who leaves with an embroidered shoe. The shoe then falls into the hands of a cad named Mao Da, who also sneaks into her house, hoping to make love to her while masquerading as E Qiuzhun...

This is a film about Choi Yuen Village, documenting villagers’ lives in the summer and autumn of 2009. Suddenly, weekly meetings, guided tours, protests, and ambiguous government consultations entered their routines. They had to recount their personal histories and the meaning of life. The common belief that protests were only about money began to loosen. The word "agriculture" reemerged for Hongkongers. The timeline depicted in the film leads up to the peak of the anti-high-speed rail protests around the Legislative Council. In the end, the railway was decided to build. In spring and summer 2010, villagers searched for land and negotiated with the government to rebuild their homes and lifestyle, valuing community, and coexistence with nature. What sustains their deep connection to land and life?

Hong Kong, after the city's last social movement, whose end was accompanied by the arrival of the global pandemic. Despite its efforts, the social movement did not triumph, and the city saw its last ‘legal’ demonstration at the end of 2019. Years later, a traveller returns to her hometown, Hong Kong. During her 9-hour stopover in Istanbul, the meeting point between Europe and Asia, she explores the city and whispers her innermost thoughts. The film shows the adventure of uncertainty before coming face to face again with the concept of home.
