Sombra

In SOMBRA [SHADOW], inspired by Alberto Manguel's book "The Library at Night", Teatro da Pombagira talks about Censorship, of knowledge and of bodies; about repression, judgment and necropolitics, immersing the public in an environment that reveals the works which were hidden on the highest shelves, locked or even removed from circulation, whether for their queer, erotic or fanciful content. Throughout the performance, the audience can hear the whispers of excerpts from literary works that have somehow suffered from censorship, while the performers take over the space and create explicit imagery that sometimes collaborates in the staging, sometimes disorient understanding.

Vaquero

Director Blake Myers crafts a portrait of the Spanish and Mexican cowboys of California, known as vaqueros, in this new documentary film. Captured through the stories of locals, this visual poem shows the modern side of a centuries-old culture preserved through generational traditions. Originally from New Zealand and now residing in Los Angeles, the director spent the past year and a half with his friend, photographer Ben Kilpatrick, documenting ranches along the rivers of the sprawling city. “We both got fascinated by the area,” says Myers. “One day, we approached a few men riding along the fence line outside their stable and asked if we could take some pictures. That’s how it all started.”

Parkway of Broken Dreams

More than 20 years ago, the cultural center of Las Vegas could be found all along Maryland Parkway, the north-south thoroughfare that is home to the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Independently owned coffee shops filled up with academics and intellectuals. A top-grade record store served as the premier destination for local musicologists. Bars and clubs buzzed with live music, flowing taps and warm bodies. And then, almost seemingly overnight, it all just - disappeared. By the turn of the century, the coffeehouses and record stores had shuttered, the art galleries moved downtown, and the street scene became a distant memory. Through archival footage and interviews with business owners, journalists, musicians, artists and scenesters from that era, Parkway of Broken Dreams tells the story of how alternative culture on Maryland Parkway was born, thrived, and, eventually, faded away.

Comisura (The Corners of Your Mouth)

Two strangers find a romantic connection and talk about their memories together over a night. Their conversation plays back in real-time, intermittently threaded over memory sequences; sensory patches that dip into their personal histories and childhood lives. We listen to the varying relationships they have with these past experiences, and how this continues to shape their outlook. Beyond this, we observe the simplicity and wholeness that is possible between two individuals in a fleeting moment; paths that have aligned and will leave a lasting imprint.

Monade IV

"Monades is a series of prints made with 3D scans of my own body, which became the raw material to be digitally sculpted, deconstructed and re-contextualized. Many inspirations have informed this project, such as the concept of the cyborg by Donna J. Haraway, Hans Bellmer's drawings, Greek Mythology as well as an underlying reflexion on self portrait and the place of the body in the digital world. Captive within the limitations of their own subjectivities, these cyborg/goddesses embody the concept of monade, where each individual is a fragmented mirror of a larger reality."
