ピクニック

A fun picnic for three, we thought it would last forever. Two brothers, both aspiring to become professional musicians, live a carefree life. A young woman moves into the flat next door to theirs. Soon the three hit it off and she begins to sing in the brothers' band. But just when they are all feeling a little emotional, the brother goes off on his own. The film is richly unified and full of taste, from the characters' clothes to the sweets beside them, the locations and the books they find. Maybe it's just a hobby of the director, but when it appears on the screen it becomes something that can be called aesthetically pleasing, and we feel the emergence of a filmmaker with an extravagant sensibility. The seemingly trivial dialogue also captures the emotional landscape of a generation that does not speak its mind.

Entomologist

In this work, no matter which scene or cut you look at, basically a different amount of time will pass than it did during the shooting. This is true not only inside the screen of individual cuts, but also in the direction of the entire time axis. The time that flows here is a cinematic time that was newly created using the time that flowed when Mr. Kazufumi Kobayashi created a stag pattern out of paper. If we say that time is a function of motion and space, then this can be rephrased as cinematic motion and cinematic space generated by the film.

クール・バナナ

At the last moment, my grandmother said. "...Banana. It's been a long time since all the relatives of the Yoshimoto family gathered at the main house. Grandma was in a critical condition. As everyone looked on at her bedside, she murmured. Bananas...". Does Grandma want to eat bananas so badly? My grandson runs. Every time a box of bananas that he has worked so hard to get is plucked and placed in the mouths of his relatives, a little piece of drama emerges. I want to eat the last banana. This bizarre and comical setting is a true story that the director read in a magazine once. The conversations between men, daughters-in-law and grandchildren that take place at family gatherings are stereotypical and familiar to everyone. The boringness of the film, on the contrary, results in a contrast between life and death.

Ms. Fukuda

This omnibus of four episodes depicts the daily life of Fukuda and her friends. In "Sunday", Mr Fukuda receives crabs from his parents' house and invites his friends over for a crab casserole. In "Piece", Mr Fukuda breaks his friend's precious teacup. In 'Badminton', Mr Fukuda prepares to move house and his friends come over to play badminton with a racket he once threw away. 'An Ordinary Day', in which a friend comes to visit Ms Fukuda's room and they eat sweets and drink tea together. All of these stories are told in a simple, everyday tone, but the temperature of the communication between Ms Fukuda and her friends slowly and surely warms the feelings of the viewer.
