The County in the Fog

A small village dominates the Oglio river valley, once on the border between the Republic of Venice and the Duchy of Milan... its name is Barco and it is dominated by the castle of a branch of the powerful Martinengo family, for centuries masters of the "County in the fog". The documentary by Mario Bonetti and Giovanni Zanotti, sponsored by the Province of Brescia, offers a journey back in time, between the splendor of an ancient county and the end of peasant civilization. It tells the origins, history, art, present and future of a magical Italian village. From the voices of those who have lived in the country emerge unique and exciting stories that bring back old memories of a world that no longer exists.

Computational Compost

“Computational Compost” addresses the environmental impact of data storage and proposes a synergy between technology and ecology. Humans and artificial intelligence produce so much data that soon there will be no capacity to store it; we are accumulating infinite information with finite resources. The film invites reconsideration on the relationship between data storage and collective memory, highlighting the urgency of critically rethinking narratives of the digital future.

Don Pelayo

An epic tale about the legend of the historical figure Don Pelayo. Set to a rock rhythm, it tells and illustrates how Asturian rebels led by Don Pelayo faced an army in the mountains of Covadonga (722 AD). In the moments before the battle, Don Pelayo recalls how, in his youth, a hermit pleaded for the life of a thief who was about to be executed for stealing. Thanks to Don Pelayo's forgiveness and for keeping the cave of Covadonga pure, the hermit prophesied that, in the future, this place would be his refuge and the Virgin of Covadonga his protector.

Sonic Youth at Hammersmith 86

Michel Henritzi plays with the energy of broken music from the 45 rpm "Brave Men Run (In My Family)" with a radical technique which intensifies the sound explosions and coordinates and accelerates the collision of the images drawn of the film. I used a scan to work on these images, filtering them in black and white, increasing the contrast and mixing them with my other reels made during my American travels. I was looking for construction lines revealing the chaotic rhythms of my visual experiences to assemble with that of this super8 of a Sonic Youth performance, it is a hymn to chaos but also to a rediscovered freedom. – Raphaël Maze
