13 Alfinetes

Miracles still happen—or so they say… What is the place of the sacred in the contemporary world? Looking again at a myth that haunts us, that of Saint Anthony of Lisbon (and also of Padua), through the timeless painting of Goya, 13 Alfinetes is a story of love, revenge, and blood. It begins with a reenactment of an episode supposedly occurring in medieval Lisbon, filtered through the cosmopolitan 18th-century Madrid, and returning to Lisbon today, where miracles, in truth, no longer happen.

Piu Piu

“When the curtain opened, under a colorful universe of feathers and sequins, she appeared on the stage, snaking lascivious movements, to the sound of a rumba or a merengue”. Piu Piu, as the actor, set designer and costume designer Elpídio Lima was known, is considered the oldest transformist in Recife. In the 1950s and 1960s, he performed at the Barreto Junior Company, on the stages of the Almare and Morroco theaters. He was one of the creators of the Companhia Tra-la-lá, a swish theater and liked to imitate the singers and actresses Sarita Montiel and Carmem Miranda.

Até Que a Vida nos Separe

A group of friends in Sao Paulo see each other regularly in different venues of this huge metropolis, and act as their own de-facto family. They are similar in many ways, all upper middle class professionals between 28 and 32 years of age, and very conscious of their psyche and lives. The diversity within the group however, is also remarkable. It's made up about half men and half women. The men are the most diverse, ranging from your average guy looking for love to an Afro-Brazilian womanizing rich playboy, to a conflicted homosexual, heir to a business empire. It is the friendship (Amizade) and bond between these people that the film exposes, and at the same time it explores the different personalities of this apparently homogeneous, but actually psychologically diverse group of Sao Paulo yuppies. They stick together "'til friendship should ever separate them"
