The Ermines

A fake documentary quoting 《A Little Princess》 (by Frances Hodgson Burnett, 1905) to depict young, precarious museum workers living in an unstable working environment. When the night comes, a woman who works at a nearby museum goes on a weasel hunt in Jungnang River to earn pocket money. Young, highly educated female workers who move between short-term contracts and part-time jobs may be the girls in ermine coats, but the film suggests that they are the ermines for a coat.

Time Reversed Time

In the summer of 2019, his family's trip was the last one with their father, husband, or father-in-law. My father-in-law passed away one day in January 2021 when it was snowing. I looked up photos and videos of him with my wife and fixed my gaze at the record of the trip two years ago. His body was with us, but often his mind was beyond our reach. What was he looking at, how was his time going? The time of this work moves forward as a whole, but continues to reverse in frame units. The cinematic time of eight, eleven, and fourteen frames, which is going backward, is in line with the way he experiences time with dementia. Like the scenery of a train rushing in front of him, his time runes forward, but his memory continues to backtrack.

Black Sun X : Casper, Witch, and Handstanderus

Black Sun X : Casper, Witch, and Handstanderus traces the trajectory of catastrophes from their nascence to the present. It weaves together fragments of loosely connected narratives under 'Black Sun X' that implies constantly swelling catastrophes. This work consists of three narratives; Casper who was a beloved comic character in popular culture, Witch-hunt that occurred during the transition period between feudalism and capitalism after the wake of Black Death (and still remains in today's disturbing situation), and 'Handstanderus' who is a group of people trying to find new ways of thinking through plants.

AKSARA MAYA

«AKSARA MAYA» is a suspenseful drama that deals with time distortion in a setting of a dark period. Appropriating the role-playing game format, the work gathers and reconstructs languages in a world where games and reality get confused, and eventually builds an imagined space. The characters referred to as users here function as shadow writers who lead the narrative. They are noisy yet tenacious and sincere in their roles, allowing us to look at the present more closely and personally through their psychological statements.

The Wind From Nowhere

"We dream of a world where we can find our own way." If a woman removes the option of 'marriage' from her life, even those who see her for the first time predict her miserable future. The old belief that a woman's life has a happy ending only when she ends up as a 'wife' or 'mother' is still alive in 2020. Now in 2020, many women are throwing away old customs and flying into their own world. This documentary sheds light on the stories of women who are walking the path of singleness over time. Through this documentary, I hope that the freedom is expanded into two options, and thus make women's daily lives more diverse and free.

Waiting M

Waiting M stems from thoughts on the experience of death, triggered by the view of the cemetery outside my studio window and the images of the rectangular boxes, round domes, and ceiling inside. At the end of the century, in the 1990s drama 'M', the green-eyed protagonist warned of the end of mankind due to the virus. On October 28, 1992, many people gathered together in the belief that their bodies would be lifted up into heaven, but only one moth was able to ascend to heaven. On December 31, 1999, people gathered at Jonggak and listened to the sound of the bells, and waited for the end of the day. On December 31, 2020, those who could no longer gather together greeted the end by listening to a virtual bell in a virtual space and began to wait again. The video consists of images, sounds, and stories exchanged with people on the web to avoid boredom waiting for the world’s doomsday.

Locking Horns

"The story of cows who didn't become meat." In 2002, people called bullfight a tradition and defined it as legal. At the same time, various bullfighting competitions were held and a huge gambling house was built. They dragged the cows into a huge amphitheater and made them fight. The gambling tickets were sold like hotcakes and fanfare burst everywhere. In the midst of it, something that is not a human being is bleeding, crying, and shedding tears. However, no one seems to be interested. On the endless truck, bulls shyly sticking out their heads speak to the camera. "By the way, can you listen to my story?“

Still Moving Fragments

It is a work that gazes at the distance between stillness and movement, between scene and scene, between different entities and time and space. It pays attention to the usage, movements, and possibility of variations of the diverse 'distances' that exist between them. If it takes a long time to move from one scene to the next, and if there are things that can only be seen after some time or from a distance, the 'time-distance' is necessary for an image to appear and disappear. What if this work captures this 'time-distance'? When a scene/image contains a single space-time, it might enable different time-space, objects, matter, non-matter in a far distance to meet, even for a brief time. Based on such ideas, the work connects one scene to the next, the voices of anonymous speakers to another. It captures the distance and the sense of distance of the things that do not stay and cannot be reached. By doing so, it seeks possible formless connections and temporary coexistence.
