Scent from Heaven

Scent from Heaven investigates the paradoxical relationship between suffering and enlightenment through the story of the agarwood tree, a fragrant and highly valued wood native to Southeast Asia. Agarwood is revered for its heavenly scent and deep symbolic ties to healing and redemption. Yet this scent only emerges when the tree is wounded-typically through infection or physical damage, often caused by human intervention. In responding to harm, the tree produces a dark, aromatic resin as a kind of immune response-transforming trauma into something treasured. As such, the work invites reflection on how beauty and value are often revealed in the light of destruction and pain, while also exposing the tension between the suffering of nature and humanity's longing for healing and salvation.

Hardwicke Circus: The Prison Gig

A short, low-budget documentary that follows a small jobbing band from the north of England called 'Hardwicke Circus' as they perform a gig and music workshop at 'Standford Hill HMP', a men's prison on the Isle of Sheppey in the south of England. Shot in Ben Archer's fly-on-the-wall 'gonzo' style of filmmaking and taken from the band's late-2019 tour of England's south coast, this documentary focuses on the joy of performance and music in an environment that does not often allow such expression. Bookended by short commentary from the band's lead singer Jonny Foster, 'Hardwicke Circus: The Prison Gig' is an uplifting ode to the power and necessity of art, even for those that society have deemed not to deserve it.

Proviseure : le rôle principal

In theory, the school principal is the head of school life, the guarantor of teaching, and the person in charge of the school. A job description that sounds like a boss with full powers. The reality is a more complex and atypical model. "Proviseure: rôle principal" explores the daily reality of the profession through the lives of three women, three school principals (a kindergarten principal in Marseille, a technical high school principal in Paris, and a middle school principal in Boulogne-Billancourt), showing that their mission is as central as it is ambivalent.

Et en plus ils dansent!

In 2023, it's still not easy, obvious or normal to be homosexual. Four characters dare to speak out publicly for the first time to recount the solidarity and support they found in this very special environment that has welcomed them: the Celtic circles. It's the story of a paradox, further proof that nothing is ever black and white. In Brittany's Celtic circles, with their outdated, conservative image of a fantasized society, homosexual men have for decades found a place of acceptance and tolerance. This is Gildas Sergent's milieu. Choreographer, sailor-cook who shares his cultural, social and jovial universe, and goes to meet these men who have dared to assert their singularity. They did so thanks to the tolerance they found in these folk groups. For many, sexual identity is no longer a taboo, or a source of shame. They can be role models, thinkers who make us reconsider our certainties and convictions. But there's still a long way to go before we're entitled to indifference.
