Room H.264: Quarantine, April 2020

In response to the cancellation of film festivals around the world and disruption in the lives and work of filmmakers, Eric Hynes, Damon Smith, and Jeff Reichert filmed and edited the documentary ROOM H.264: Quarantine, April 2020 over the course of the last two weeks. Shot via Skype, it features those whose work was slated to screen at festivals like SXSW, CPH:DOX, Tribeca, First Look, and more. The documentary depicts a broad range of filmmakers, each sequestered in their own spaces in locations throughout North America, Europe, Africa, and beyond, responding to a question first posed by Wim Wenders in his classic 1982 documentary experiment Room 666, and perhaps newly resonant today: “Is cinema becoming a dead language—an art form which is already in decline?”

ciao Aracà

"...a charming depiction of life as I knew it with my grandparents in my own village..." Clara Caleo Green, Cinema Italia UK "The sum of the individual fates and life choices paints a picture, the validity of which extends far beyond this village." Joachim Manzin, Black Box This documentary records the thoughtful and emotional confrontation with time, change, loss and hope related by the members of a small community in the idyllic Ligurian countryside who are dealing with a rapidly changing agricultural industry, transformed by globalisation and technological advances and an increasing number of foreigners buying the empty houses in their village. Forgoing the use of music and voice over, the film lets Aracà's inhabitants tell their own stories and allows the audience to dive into the rich soundscape of the ligurian alpine countryside.

Seniors: A Dogumentary

SENIORS is a feature-length documentary full of love, hope, and second chances. It focuses on three interwoven stories about senior dogs. There’s Chaser, the smartest dog in the world. Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary, a retirement home for dogs in Tennessee. And famed photographer, Jane Sobel Klonsky, who has devoted much of her talents towards capturing the bond between elderly dogs and their owners. Unlike most animal documentaries, our goal is to highlight the positive. No abuse will be shown in SENIORS. This film will celebrate senior dogs and many of the seniors who love them. It will show how vibrant they are, and how much they can offer to the world. This will be the animal welfare film everyone can watch, leaving viewers grinning from ear-to-ear, and showing how old dogs really can teach us new tricks.

Lincoln is Crying: The Grifters, Grafters, and Governors of Illinois

LINCOLN IS CRYING: The Grifters, Grafters and Governors of Illinois is a scathing indictment of politics in the "Land of Lincoln"...and it's funny too. The new documentary from filmmakers John Davies and Brian Kallies presents a funny/sad look at the pervasive, deep-rooted culture of political corruption in Illinois. Why focus on Illinois? Well, it's the most corrupt state in America and home to Chicago, the most corrupt city in America. LINCOLN IS CRYING is a cautionary tale for all other states and given what's happening in national politics, it couldn't be timelier.

Two Face: The Grey

In 2017, Award-Winning Filmmaker Chad Calek announced that his forthcoming documentary, Sir Noface, would feature the world's first authentic footage of a full-body apparition, as documented by Sydney investigator Craig Powell during the only paranormal investigation in history to be officially sanctioned by the Australian Government. But after the release of Sir Noface, viewers around the world claimed that Powell's footage was not an apparition, but a misidentified extraterrestrial alien "Grey". As crazy as this may seem, Calek had secretly expected this response, as he and Powell had both experienced threatening encounters that suggested the potential of extraterrestrial involvement on a government scale. As the sequel to the Sir Noface documentary, Two Face: The Grey is the continuation of the investigation into the most compelling paranormal case in history, which reveals global implications that Calek and Powell could have never imagined.

Die Urpflanze

During his trip to Italy, Goethe visited the botanical gardens of the cities where he stayed. He fantasized about discovering the existence of the primitive plant: the mold where all the others, despite their difference in shape, would have formed. During the shooting of a film adapted from this trip, I went twice to the Botanical Garden of Naples. Both times the filmstrip was visited by a ghost. I saw there the ghost of this primitive plant, but also the memory of the very beginning of the photographic recording, these photogenic drawings of plants invented by Henry Fox Talbot.
