Sukut, the memory of silence

In the refugee camps of Tindouf, for more than 30 years the Sahrawi people is waiting to get the goal that forced them to exile: to return to their land free from any foreign domination. Sukut collects the testimonies of life of elderly Sahrawi with three objectives: to preserve the historical memory of this people, that have basically an oral tradition, show the human aspects of some experiences and data too much objectified, and especially, give the word to those who have been silenced too long ago.

Mario, a windshield cleaner boy, is accused of stealing Fabiola's money; its his mother. This causes her to take her son's money from her friend Enrique from her; another cleans for breezes. Mario tries to get his friend's money back by confronting his stepfather; from who suspects theft. Faced with his failure, he decides to steal a cell phone and during the tour of his escape is hit by a car. Enrique's mother died in the hospital during she waits for Mario and Fabiola receives the news that her son has died in an accident.

During a tour of one of the rooms of the Museo Casa de la Memoria Indómita (Museum of Indomitable Memory), which displays documents, photographs, and objects related to forced disappearances during the dirty war in Mexico, we attend the audiovisual enunciation of a phrase, perhaps diffuse, that becomes less and less circumstantial. The dirty war never ended. Our present is closed, contracted by a plane-sequence in the middle of a Memory that we desire more and more untamed.

A mystical place, an enchanted story: A group of knights, imported directly from the Middle Ages, go ashore on the banks of the Río de la Plata. They are searching for a grave where they wish to perform a ritual. As they pass through the jungle, things happen that cause them to land in the present day. They have sex, find a car, enjoy a sunset with beers in their hands. Then an announcement comes over the radio that makes everything appear in a different light, and there’s no going back.

Sahrawi women who have different jobs tell us through several interviews their vital experiences and share their opinion about the difficult situation that they suffer. In parallel with these interviews the documentary shows us how is a typical day of a sahrawi family in which a girl and her friend live a little story of fantasy.

The Last Day on Duty

The film covers the last stretch of the career of Javier Herrán, a firefighter stationed in Urioste (Bizkaia). As he approaches retirement, you will get an insight into the workings of a well-oiled group and, particularly, the life of one of the brigade’s most eccentric firefighters with rank of corporal, who does not want to face up to retirement. The film focusing on his journey along with Javier Galbarriartu opens a window onto the work of a profession whose members risk their lives for other citizens. This documentary that discusses life and ageing reveals the feelings of the main character who still seems young, both physically and at heart, and who loves a job that he does not want to give up.
