Dazzle

This puppet animation is set in a time when darkness still reigned when people were still afraid of what lay beyond the stillness of the night. In the evening, a husband leaves the house with a guilty look on his face, and his wife, feeling something, gently sends him off. The wife notices a shadow on the shoji and chases after it, but what she sees are the creatures of the underworld... The house and the townscape are so elaborate and emotional that we forget that they are models. The house and the town are so elaborate and emotionally rich that we forget that they are models, and the dolls, moving with an awkward rhythm, play out the drama of a mysterious and violent woman in a gentle manner.

END, END

The film begins with a "Dog of Andalusia" style image. I don't mind if it's an imitation of Godard. The film begins with the words "I don't care if it's an imitation of Godard", and then a series of images that seem to imitate some film appear and disappear one after another. The film is interrupted by a sceptical narration, which pauses to describe the artist's anguish at not knowing how to end the film, even though he wants to. A light, self-assertive film that pretends to be a film imitation.

夜明けの晩に

Based on a novel by Akagi Motoko; a physiological literary world written by a 20-year-old woman for a radio drama. While a girl misses the last train and spends the night in a phone booth, the words she speaks into the empty receiver impress us with her pregnant tenderness rather than the sadness of her separation from him. Gradually, as we see the gaps in her life, the death of her twin sister when she was a child, her desire to be independent from her mother, and the fact that she really misses him, the movement of images becomes the movement of emotions. The phone booth that is supposed to protect her from the rain looks like a womb, but it is actually cold. When she realizes this, the morning arrives.

JUST BEHIND

A certain part of ourselves that we cannot see, represented by the "back of the front", is the key to understanding ourselves. To eat, to excrete, to reproduce... what is the meaning of life? Often, when we lose sight of this, we become ghosts with substance, wandering the streets. A familiar nursery rhyme melody, a door that suddenly appears in a river or in the grass, an Okinawan woman. An anthology of images using experimental techniques such as multiple exposures and elaborate filter work.

Distribution of Unspoiled Landscape

Showcasing a meditative exploration of untouched natural scenery. Without dialogue or traditional narrative, the 22-minute film presents a series of static, meticulously framed shots that capture the fleeting beauty of pristine landscapes. Created during a time of rapid industrial growth in Japan, the film serves as both a celebration of nature’s purity and a quiet protest against its encroachment by modernity. Shot on 16mm film, Nakamura embraced imperfections like grain and natural lighting to reflect the fragility and authenticity of his subject.

Last year, my grandfather died. The film begins with the words "Last year, my grandfather died," and the filmmaker turns his attention to his grandmother, who is left behind. She says she could die at any time, but she lives on. The artist's fingers crawl over the grandmother's face, caressing the wrinkles. Her mother supports her as she gives her a bath.
