Crossnight/Keylight

In 1577, the Spanish priest Juan de la Cruz was placed in prison, where he was held in harsh conditions and tortured. In the spiritual state of God-forsakenness, Juan achieved insight - a feeling of unity with the Crucified. Experiencing the test of the Cross, he composed stanzas about the "dark night", into the darkness of which the soul seeking God plunges. The images of the mask and the key are an addition to the mystical and poetic insight of the Spanish saint. The second night must be followed by a third, but it is unspeakable and unimaginable.

Here's to the Absent Ladies!

The most numerous subculture is a nameless one: it’s the boys’ subculture. Mindlessly at first, they mimic the rituals and habits of adult men. Boys curse, boys raise glasses “for ladies not present here”, until they gradually evolve into men, becoming role models for the next generation of boys. The character of this montage film crafted from discovered tapes makes such full circle: through his childhood, a winter dacha with vodka shots, a picture-perfect 2000s vacation in Turkey and Egypt with his parents, and into adulthood and his own family.

The Palmnicken Tragedy

Andrei Proskuryakov's documentary delves into a profound examination and contemplation of the events that transpired on January 31, 1945. On that day, the Nazis perpetrated a large-scale execution of approximately 3,000 prisoners from the Stutthof concentration camp on the shores of the Baltic Sea, near the village of Palmnicken in East Prussia. The film is meticulously structured around three pivotal individuals: Martin Bergau, a former Hitler Youth member who was connected to the tragedy; Gunther Nitsch, a German-American writer whose grandfather was involved in exhuming the victims» bodies; and Simcha Koplowicz, the son of Sheva Koplowicz, a survivor of the massacre. Through these characters, the documentary meticulously examines the historical silence that surrounded this tragedy and endeavors to reveal the unvarnished truth surrounding the event.

Hongnun Soondan

The Huun-Huur-Tu ensemble works with the Tuvan tradition of throat singing and traditional Tuvan instruments. Since the beginning of the 90s, they have been performing all over the world, not letting old songs fall silent and expanding the field of musical experiment around their roots. But director Mikhail Voropaev shoots musicians not on foreign tours, but on a journey along the roads and steppes where their childhood and youth were spent. Between conversations, the group stops every now and then to sing about their land and home — about the past and the future.
