Black and White in Color

French colonists in Africa, several months behind in the news, find themselves at war with their German neighbors. Deciding that they must do their proper duty and fight the Germans, they promptly conscript the local native population. Issuing them boots and rifles, the French attempt to make "proper" soldiers out of the Africans. A young, idealistic French geographer seems to be the only rational person in the town, and he takes over control of the "war" after several bungles on the part of the others.

Sarah is a lounge singer who works to support her husband, Paul Lasut, a gambler. In an intersection, her car nearly runs into the car of David Panggabean, the director of a bank. The event leads to them falling in love. Lasut is shot and dies on the gambling table. Sarah thinks that Lasut dies because of the money that David gave him. Sarah avoids David, who still persistently visits her place of work. David also has problems with his work, due to his assistant. All the problems are finally resolved when David and Sarah are married.

Uzbek young man Rustam, a helicopter co-pilot, is participating in the construction of a high-voltage line in the Alps. One day in West Germany, where he was sent on a long business trip, the hero meets Uzbek emigrants. The external well-being of the new friends very soon revealed the catastrophic nature of everyone’s destinies. These meetings contribute to Rustam’s spiritual and civic maturity; the hero rediscovers the necessity and significance of his homeland, where his family and friends have long been waiting for him.

Cinématon

Cinématon is a 156-hour long experimental film by French director Gérard Courant. It was the longest film ever released until 2011. Composed over 36 years from 1978 until 2006, it consists of a series of over 2,821 silent vignettes (cinématons), each 3 minutes and 25 seconds long, of various celebrities, artists, journalists and friends of the director, each doing whatever they want for the allotted time. Subjects of the film include directors Barbet Schroeder, Nagisa Oshima, Volker Schlöndorff, Ken Loach, Benjamin Cuq, Youssef Chahine, Wim Wenders, Joseph Losey, Jean-Luc Godard, Samuel Fuller and Terry Gilliam, chess grandmaster Joël Lautier, and actors Roberto Benigni, Stéphane Audran, Julie Delpy and Lesley Chatterley. Gilliam is featured eating a 100-franc note, while Fuller smokes a cigar. Courant's favourite subject was a 7-month-old baby. The film was screened in its then-entirety in Avignon in November 2009 and was screened in Redondo Beach, CA on April 9, 2010.

Bayaludaari is a 1976 Indian Kannada-language film directed and produced by the Dorai–Bhagavan duo. It is based on the novel of the same name by Bharathi Sutha. This was the first movie of the director duo without Dr. Rajkumar in the lead. The film starred Anant Nag, Kalpana, and K. S. Ashwath. It was a musical blockbuster with all the songs composed by Rajan–Nagendra considered evergreen hits. Bayalu Daari was the first commercial success for Anant Nag who had earlier done art films and established himself as a leading star in the Kannada cinema with a chocolate hero image. This film was one the last big hits of Kalpana. The helicopter scenes formed a major highlight of the movie.

Lestari stops teaching when she marries Rama who has returned from abroad. Lestari, who is an only child and an orphan, is infertile. One day she meets Shinta, her favorite student who cannot stand living with her stepmother, especially since her father, a drunken truck driver, died in an accident. Lestari invites Shanti to live with her. Then Rama’s parents bring Lestari to Tokyo for treatment as they still wish to have a grandchild. Rama and Shinta are left at home and begin to be intimate. Lestari is furious when she returns but she finally gives them her blessings as she cannot conceive. But due to a misunderstanding, Shinta runs away. Then Rama finds Shinta as a singer in a nightclub. Without Lestari’s knowledge, they consummate their love. Then Rama accuses Shinta of adultery and refuses to acknowledge the baby as theirs.

Stefan is in charge of the construction of a large investment. He fears imminent old age. He visits a friend who lives in a mountain solitude. They witness a tragic accident - a young mountaineer falls off a cliff. They bring help. Stefan notices the emptiness of his family life. His wife wants to leave him, he still believes in the possibility of saving their marriage. During a trip together they get into a car accident. An encounter with Stefan's son, Andrew, occurs, forcing him to make a harsh assessment of his life.
