Celebrating Route 66

Today’s video Doodle takes you on the ultimate American road trip, a journey along the historic Route 66. The iconic highway—known for its retro diners, quirky motels, eclectic art installations and extraordinary landscapes—connects Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California. On this day in 1926, the name “U.S. 66” was first proposed for the cross-country route. The video—set to the classic music track "Route 66" by Bobby Troup—celebrates the cultural significance of one of America’s first national highways, and how it became a symbol of a changing nation.

File 631

Inspired by a true story, the film presents a TV reporter's journalistic investigation into alleged American "flying prisons" in Romania. Through a combination of circumstances, following a mysterious File 631, Dinu (Iosif Paștina) discovers a leak from a NATO base in Romania. The news event stirs, provokes, tempts various media, top politicians, services, both internal and external, causing both hilarious and absurd dramas in a black comedy. The journalistic endeavour of the "newly" turned investigative reporter is a tough, not easy, test to preserve his professional dignity, but also his character, noting the duplicity, the moral volatility, the lack of measure of a world that relentlessly continues its course.

1230 Hopewell Road

1230 Hopewell Road centers around two investigate journalist who set out to make a documentary of a local urban legend and a troubled boyfriend at the deadly center of it all. Rob Gabe is the director of films such as RETURN HAUNED (2021) & MARA'S LABYRINTH (2021) as well as art videos like VIXEN. Director Statement: 1230 HOPEWELL ROAD is very much inspired by kink/fetish industrial subcultures, film such as Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo The Iron Man (1988), analogue aesthetics, and Urban Legends I grew up with as a teenager in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It’s pretty edgelord-y and tampers with dork sided subjects so don’t watch it with Mama-San in the room.

Critters Chorus, Cycle 1

Whirring and flashing in the night sky. Wild foliage on a moist forest floor, rapidly passing by. Nervous encounters at a redwood tree, gurgling chatter with turkeys at dusk. Casually coiffed horses, unpredictable flying objects and flapping rotors. Speckled skin scrabbles, covered in lush ferns. Swirling fog, dripping haze, old man’s beard, light – diffracted. Sassy badgers, strings and figures. Lead by questioning the so-called “species problem”, Truttmann investigates the (im)possibilities of taxonomic categorization of living organisms from an artistic point of view. This way she creates a fictional ecosystem of rhythmic montage and unruly composition, in which the species raise their voices against imposed classification. Audio and video recordings have been collected during artist residencies in southern Estonia (Maajaam Project Space, 2019) and in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California (Djerassi Resident Artists Program, 2022).

Akaash Singh: Bring Back Apu

Because somewhere along the line, South Asians started trying to cash in on victimhood currency. Complaining about cartoon characters, people mispronouncing our names, and God knows what else. But we were raised better than that. Our parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties taught us dominate everything we do, just like they did when they made it here. And it is our privilege to carry that tradition forward. So it's time to end all the victim shit and taking our identity back.
