Wonder Valley

An ordinary ram — one. And a bag of "choice grass" — one. This was enough to mix all the cards and create a comedic parable about the good oddities who live in Central Asia in a place called "Wonderful Valley": an orphan shepherd boy in love with a local beauty, whom his grandfather is going to marry an oligarch. Two stoned scoundrels, serving on the parcels of the oligarch. A kind aunt who believes in miracles and love. And her granddaughter — a local singer who was going to marry an American against the will of her father. One day a ram appears in the village with a mysterious inscription on its side and immediately "everything is mixed up in the "Wonderful Valley": fathers and children, love and hate, oligarchs and shepherds, drugs and magic sheep... And the result is ... three whole weddings!»

From Slaves to Bond: The Rise, Fall, and Legacy of the British Empire

Although the British Empire collapsed in the mid-20th century, many still believe that British imperialism is alive and well. Around fifteen countries — including Canada and Australia — continue to recognize the British monarch as their nominal head of state. In recent years, as relations between Russia and the West have sharply deteriorated, Britain has been portrayed as Russia’s principal arch-enemy, with imperialist thinking often cited as the root cause. In our new in-depth episode, we explore the history of the British Empire and ask whether it truly belongs to the past. We travel to London, to India — once the “jewel in the crown” — and to other countries that still have unresolved questions for the Empire and are demanding the repayment of historical debts.

The day before, Moscow police erected metal fence corridors in the Maryino district and deployed hundreds of security forces and paddy wagons. The funeral service, held at the Church of the 'Assuage My Sorrows' icon, lasted less than 20 minutes. Only family members were permitted to approach the coffin. After the body was lowered into the ground, police allowed the public to say their final goodbyes to the opposition leader. Lines leading to the church and Borisovskoye Cemetery stretched for several hundred meters, and participants in the farewell procession walked through Maryino, chanting slogans such as 'Freedom for political prisoners,' 'No to war,' and 'Navalny is a hero of Russia.' Still Free

A film must confront the world in which it is made, but also the one in which it is shown. When Vadim Kostrov accompanied young couple Katya and Kostya to a nearby lake, and filmed them with the directness for which he is known, he couldn’t foresee the political implications of these images. At the time Kostya was about to join the Russian military – a decision he came to regret later on. It’s breathtaking to witness the film’s playful innocence, while at the same time measuring every word against the destructive nature of war – yet the film outlines more than a political parable: Kostrov reflectively turns towards the few hours of light in the face of an impending darkness, which linger too briefly.

Which Universe Are We In?

Imagine a world where infinite copies of you are playing out every storyline of your life. It sounds like a plot stolen straight from Hollywood, but far from it. This is the multiverse. Until very recently the whole idea of the multiverse was dismissed as a fantasy, but now this strangest of ideas is at the cutting edge of science. And for a growing number of scientists, the multiverse is the only way we will ever truly make sense of the world we are in. Do multiple universes exist? And if so, which one are we actually in?" Imagine a world where dinosaurs still walk the earth. A world where the Germans won World War II and you are president of the United States. Imagine a world where the laws of physics no longer apply.
