Bandits En Automobile - Episode 2: Outlaws

In 1913 early French film pioneer Victorin-Hippolyte Jasset died abruptly at the age of 51. His filmography of about 60 titles includes all film genres but is today mostly lost. He was particularly interested in detective or crime genres and with series like Nick Carter and Zigomar he is considered as one of the creators of the serial. The spectacular siege of Jules Bonnot's Gang at Choisy-le-Roi near Paris on April 28th 1912 inspired Jasset to make this 'Bandits en automobile'. French audiences recognized immediately the resemblances with the actual Bonnot Gang, a reason for which the film was prohibited in many cities.

Camille Chamoux - Chamouxland

In the land of Chamoux, there are powerful women from the 2020s who are unable to get a raise, hyper-efficient secret agents who are unaware of their abilities, friends who listen without seeming to, and women who believe in telekinesis. There are girls who count quickly and accurately, girls who speak too softly, and girls who think too loudly. The common thread is Elise Lucide, an insatiable and sensationalist investigative reporter, a pure product of the old-school French media landscape, determined to bring viewers the purest essence of this terra incognita: female humor. From couple's life to palliative care, from schools to Comedy Clubs, Chamouxland is a journey to the limits of the post-modern, post-feminist, and post-Me-Too world.

Coka Chicas

When Sarah and her best friends Jessica and Chanel arrive at a dreamy Caribbean resort from their Parisian suburb, their goal is not to sip mojitos and dance the bachata. The three 25-year-olds are in fact “coka chicas”, drug mules, hoping to make their dream of opening a nail bar come true through a single drug smuggling hustle. Everything seems to be going to plan until Jessica is stopped by the police while they are boarding the plane back to France. The circumstances of her arrest are suspicious and when Sarah and Chanel start looking for her, she is not to be found at any police station or hospital. Bound by the sacred bonds of friendship the girls decide to stay and find Jessica, far from imagining the magnitude of the secrets they are about to uncover and the danger that will be unleashed…

The Untamable Whiskers

The background of this picture represents a scene along the beautiful river Seine in Paris. A gentleman enters, and taking a blackboard from the side of the picture, he draws on it a sketch of a novelist. Then, standing in the centre, he causes the living features of his sketch to appear in the place of his own, which is utterly devoid of whiskers. The change is made so mysteriously that the eye cannot notice it until one sees quite another person in the place of the first. Again another sketch is shown on the board, this one being that of a miser; then an English cockney; a comic character; a French policeman, and last of all, the grinning visage of Mephistopheles. It is almost impossible to give this film a more definite description; suffice it to say that it is something entirely new in motion pictures and is sure to please. (Méliès Catalog)

Vajont

On October 9th, 1963, at 10:39 pm, 260 million cubic meters of rock fell down from Mount Toc to the artificial lake formed by the Vajont dam, the higher dam in the world. The landslide formed a 250-meters wave and 50 million cubic meters of water completely destroied all the below towns, killing more than 2000 people. Planned by engineer Semenza, Vajont dam (263 meters) had to carry the electricity in all the houses of the country. Tina Merlin, a journalist from 'L'Unitá', tried for years to denounce the danger to build a dam near the Mount Toc and expecially to denounce all the omissions by the corrupted politicians and workers in charge of the dam construction. They preferred to trust in old geologist Dal Piaz instead to hear engineer Semenza young son's alarming analysis. No one seemed to understand the high danger until that October fatal night.
