Love in Eternity

The film uses both music and dance forms alongside Shakespeare's sublime poetry to explore and express key themes centered on the nature of Love itself - its anguish, its glorious manifestations, its endless paradoxes, its transcendent essence. The full spectrum of love's possibilities is encompassed from the darkest side of lust and carnality right through to its most sublime and divine expression. The sonnets are intermixed with brief scenes from Shakespeare's plays thematically intertwined. There is an eclectic mix of music and song from classical Indian genre to Mozart's sonatas, modern film music, the mystical strains of Gurdjieff's piano music, Sanskrit Vedic hymns and more. Classical Indian dancer Arunima Kumar adds a further dimension in magnifying and illuminating the full range of emotions which the sonnets and play extracts embody. O learn to read what silent love hath writ To hear with eyes belongs to love's fine wit.

Titon et l'aurore

Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville was greatly admired in his day. His opera Titon et l’Aurore was one of his most popular works, being held up as a triumph over the rival Italian style during the Parisian Querelle des Bouffons in the 1750s. The narrative of this spectacular opéra-ballet follows the tumultuous and seemingly unbreakable liaison between the goddess L’Aurore and her lover the shepherd Titon. Jealous gods and goddesses try to interfere through murderous intent and dramatic abduction, but true love ultimately conquers all in stage director Basil Twist’s acclaimed feast for the senses.

Marker Wadden

Five years ago, a unique project was launched in the Markermeer: the construction of Marker Wadden. Using clay, silt, and sand, an archipelago of islands was created where nature can flourish. Nature filmmaker Cees van Kempen made a documentary about this example of Dutch ingenuity: Marker Wadden, a wonderful nature story. The construction of the Afsluitdijk and Houtribdijk dikes closed off the Markermeer, causing biodiversity to decline rapidly. In Marker Wadden, you can see how nature is developing rapidly on these new islands. Birds, insects, plants, and fish are appearing, and breeding birds are once again finding peace and space.
