The Very Thought of You

Set 10,000 years after the myth of Chang-E’s ascension onto the Moon, ‘The Very Thought of You’ centers around the hallucinatory experience of a Moon refugee who was broken out of his cryo-vacuum stasis by reasons unknown. In his helpless and delirious state, the man began wondering if he was really hearing the voice message of an ex-lover who he had to abandon in a bid for personal survival. The boundaries between freedom and restriction, past and present, individualism and collectivism, will blur and may even dissolve, in this dusky corner of the Moon.

Making Space

Making Space is a film about trying to find oneself in the constant flow of change and renewal, navigating through the anxiety that comes with not knowing where ‘home’ is, and finally letting go of the need of finding one single person, place, or answer that will solve all your problems. It’s also a film about faces, closeness, and intimacy, and how a Super 8 camera allowed her to get closer to the people she was portraying while also keeping a protective distance. This film was part of a project commissioned by the Echo Park Film Center for the 20th anniversary of its location in LA. The project was supported by the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts. Making Space was shot in 2021, entirely on KODAK TRI-X Reversal Film.

Paul Keller - Stille im Schrei

Paul Keller lives in a bombed-out city in the post-war year of 1952. He did not know his father and his mother is no longer there. Paul finds one day the missing person report of a young girl. He goes to Inspector Holler and claims that he knows the girl. But in the course of the conversation, Paul always seems less credible. He is sent out by the inspector. Does Paul actually have anything to do with the missing girl or does he seek recognition in a lost world? When he meets young Ingrid and falls in love with her, the story turns in an uncontrollable and surprising direction. The film "Paul Keller - Silence in Scream" is produced by Frame Store Film and Entertainment GmbH on 16mm film. Director Axel Loh focuses on the "old school" look in the style of the 50s films. For this reason, he uses Beaulieau R16 series cameras from the '60s, which exactly reflect the look of this time. In addition, old footage is used, which shows street scenes and ruins of the post-war period.

Antenna

The actor-director picks up the old telephone, hangs up, over and over again ; the soundman records all the takes. We are on the film set of Declan Clarke’s latest opus, What are the wild waves saying? (FID 2022). To concentrate on the sound takes of an almost silent film : here is an economy of attention, of caring for details. Serge Garcia shows us a string of sequences of flourishing activity, culminating in collective silence and careful listening. Until in the end Declan Clarke shares, in voice-over, his artistic and intellectual heritage, the nexus of all the moments of labour and observation shown here. (Nathan Letoré)
