And how do people in the extreme north experience the change in their environment? ZDF reporter Johannes Hano and his team travel through the U.S. state of Alaska, and through northern Canada, visiting Denmark's autonomous region Greenland, Norway's Spitsbergen and northern Russia. they experience the magic of a beautiful nature, meet people who have learned for centuries how to survive in an inhospitable region. But now they learn how the struggle for power and influence is waking the Arctic from its slumber. For some time now, Russia has been doing everything it can to gain supremacy.

Benedikt

Benedikt is a farmer in a small village in the Palatinate Forest who lives off agriculture and beekeeping and has never left his hometown. The documentary follows Benedikt in his working and living environment, exploring the relationship between tools, the body, and the material world, in a sensual, haptic exchange, influenced by Hartmut Rosa’s concept of resonance: what might a resonant relationship to the world look like? The notion of listening gives an important clue: listening to the world as a whole, hearing voices other than human ones. Benedikt is a quiet, documentary portrait that gives the viewers time to reflect on themes such as life plan, loneliness, connections, and romance.

75 Watt

According to the Marks' Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, the average laborer can sustain an output of about seventy-five watts over the course of an eight-hour day. Inspired by this finding, Cohen and Van Balen shifted laborers’ actions from the efficient production of objects to the performance of choreography. The designers collaborated with choreographer Alexander Whitley and with workers at the White Horse Electric Factory in Zhognshan, China, to create an assembly-line dance. By placing attention on the process instead of the result, the designers sought to question “the nature of mass-manufacturing products on various scales, from the geopolitical context of labor to the biopolitical condition of the human body on the assembly line." New Covenant

An ongoing series of short shorts that are all under four minutes long. Each explore a single formal, conceptual or structural idea. The process of realisation can either be loose and improvisatory, or time intensive and heavily edited. Each of the films use footage shot with a DV camera, mini VHS or High 8 video camera. Using cheaper and handheld mediums, instead of 16mm (or a larger, more expensive HD digital camera), allows for a quicker, more intuitive and playful approach to production.
