El último abrazo

A true story: some years ago, I paid one euro for a handbag in an informal auction in Valencia. When I came home, I found inside the handbag lots of papers. Amongst them, two letters dated 1946, unsent. Their author announced his imminent suicide, due to the negative effects of war, prison and the lost of his family. El ultimo abrazo (The last embrace) is a short documentary film about our research, from the moment we found the letters until we find out who had written these letters, what had driven him to take his own life and why were both letters together and unsent.

Tarajal: Desmontando la impunidad en la frontera sur

The events that took place at the beach of El Tarajal in Ceuta (Spain) in February 2014 - the killing by the border police of 15 people who were trying to reach the Spanish coast - are an example of how the police force can violate the laws of its own country and international conventions with total impunity. The worst part is that this violation of human rights is protected by the Spanish Ministry of Interior itself, which hinders any effective action by the prosecution. For this reason, the civil society plays a fundamental role in revealing the facts. This is where the figure of collective complaints (DESC Observatory and the association Coordinadora de Barrios) steps in.

A Murmur Crosses Time

In the Central Cemetery of Bogotá a popular tradition has been practiced for fifty years: the rites for the deceased. The isolated atmosphere, the crackling of the candles, the cooing of the pigeons or the singing of the mariachis, make the Central a suitable place for recollection, for communication with the beyond and the search for a superior force that brings aid and benefits to the lives of believers. Listening to those whispers that call death to life allows us to perceive elements of life that remain veiled.

Cinematic Correspondences: Fernando Eimbcke - So Yong Kim

The exhibition 'The Complete Letters' features epistolary works defined by cinematographic creation. This is an experimental communication format used between pairs of film directors. Although each director is situated in a location geographically distant from that of their partner, they are united by their willingness to share ideas and reflections on all that motivates their work. Within this space of freedom, the directors featured in the exhibition examine their affinities and differences, within an environment of mutual respect and simultaneity of interests and with notable formal variants established in each of the correspondences.

Anime en femenino

The growing popularity of Japanese animation has a large female component, with filmmakers such as Mari Okada and Naoko Yamada and cartoonists such as Lolita Aldea (Virtual Hero, the El Rubius series). There is a proliferation of Spanish singers who are successful in Japan (idols) and the "otakus" have "come out of the closet." Experts, YouTubers and professionals from the world of manga and anime such as Diana Calleja (RamenParaDos), Manu Guerrero (Selecta Visión), Lolita Aldea, Marc Bernabé (translator) and Isabel Espada (Norma Editorial) talk about this.
