as a bird that briefly perches

As a bird that briefly perches is a cinematic diary that weaves together the filmmaker’s sentiments about homeland with reference to the geology of Hong Kong; an analogy between human nature and greenhouse gardening; and her reflections on the choice of living abroad as she studies the everyday life of migrant farmers and their adaptation on foreign soil, reinterpreting agricultural processes and the migration of species. The work explores the implications of rooting, re-rooting and growing as the artist contemplates on the evolving dynamics between land and human.

La dent creuse

"On that day, a building for the poor fell on top of the poor," is how Hazem El Moukaddem sums up the collapse of two buildings on rue d'Aubagne, in Marseille, on november 5th, 2018. This documentary gives voice to those who, on that morning, lost a friend or a neighbor under the rubble, falling victims to poor housing and property speculation. It is intended as an homage to the 8 victims of this tragedy, as well as to the inhabitants of this working-class neighborhood, who came together in solidarity to demand justice.

Charlie Hebdo, Hyper Cacher - Les Trois Jours qui ont fait Trembler la France

On Wednesday, January 7, 2015, the Kouachi brothers entered the offices of the newspaper Charlie Hebdo and killed eleven people. They wounded eleven others and, during their escape, executed a police officer lying on the ground. A third terrorist then murdered four people in a supermarket. The impact of these events was profound, both in France and abroad. More than four million people took to the streets during rallies held on January 10 and 11.

Hamlet - Teatro Regio Torino

With its lively dances, ghost scenes and touching arias, Hamlet was Ambroise Thomas’s single great success of the Paris Opera, remaining in its repertoire for decades after the 1868 premiere. On the opening night, the title role was sung by a baritone, as has become the custom ever since. With the rediscovery of the original score in recent years, it transpires that Thomas originally scored the role of Hamlet for a tenor. In this new production of Teatro Regio Torino, the tenor John Osborn is the tormented prince, singing the celebrated monologue “To be or not to be” (“Être ou ne pas être”). Sara Blanch sings Ophélie, whose pyrotechnic aria in the mad scene is a pièce de résistance for a coloratura soprano. Under the musical direction of Jérémie Rhorer, the production is directed by Jacopo Spirei.

I Want My People to Be Remembered

An intimate and political journey through Donna Gottschalk's personal archives—photographs, contact sheets, audio cassettes, letters, diaries. Based on interviews conducted by Hélène and previously unpublished documents, the film traces the lives of Donna and some of her loved ones. The voices of Donna, her sister Myla, and friends like Jill intertwine, composing a choral and fragmentary narrative, where the intimate meets collective history. The film recreates an era—that of a generation of queer women who were committed, precarious, and often invisible.
