The impoverished Count Lerchenau works under the name Rudi Lindt as a chauffeur. Because he is so well-loved by women, he lost his last position. His former servant Franz has not abandoned him in his time of need and the servant keeps trying to find a rich bride for the former Count. In the Grand Hotel, where the Count is supposed to be finding a suitable mate, he instead flirts with the attractive Alice. In order to get a job with the employer Ottokar Frühwirt, Rudi uses Count Lerchenau as a reference. But then the employer wants to speak with Lerchenau and Franz has to play the role of the Count. Alice, it turns out, is the employer's niece. When she finds out that Rudi is only a chauffeur, she wants nothing to do with him.

After trying to smuggle a package into prison for his father Willi, Harry and his girlfriend Marlies also end up in jail. While Harry is billeted with Daddy, Marlies is housed just one floor up in the cell of the ageing prostitute Jutta. Every time the Baron calls out “Man-da-riiiin”, the statue becomes alive ready to make another woman fall in love with his master. But von Stroom soon begins to feel nostalgic for the times when he would conquer the women he desired. However, his attempts to seduce women without the help of his ghostly servant become utterly unsuccessful. Unable to get rid of his devilish servant... They used to make music together in the GDR and were best friends. Then one of them became famous and the other was arrested. Decades later, the latter wants justice and accuses his successful colleague of spying on him and betraying his escape plans to the Stasi. The dramatic night-time conversation ends disastrously. After a concert, successful pop singer Marco Hoffmann's past catches up with him: his ex-bandmate Wolle wants to talk to him. The two had a rock band in the GDR - but while Marco was making a career for himself, Wolle ended up in prison after a failed escape attempt. Even after being ransomed to the West and the collapse of the GDR, Wolle couldn't get a leg on the ground. He suspected Marco of having spied on him as an IM. Wolle believes he has found clear evidence in his Stasi file. But Marco denies everything.

Disturbingly, but believably, women turn their husbands into shrinking violets, only to release them into the wild when the situation calls for it.
