Pennie

This is a documentary portrait of Pennie Key, a 29yo art student from Athens living in London and working in the sex industry. The film follows Pennie through her daily life for a period of one year and is structured in a way that every scene reveals a new facet of the character. In doing that, the film challenges preconceived notions and ideas regarding femininity, sexuality and sex work. Pennie is queerness in its essence. She is able to fluidly move through gender roles, stereotypes and sexuality in the most natural way, even when being part of an industry that moves strongly in the opposite direction.

Hafa

During a research stay in Tangier, I worked around the story of Omar Ba, a Senegalese migrant in transit. From this experience emerged an exchange of films and objects. A child’s sandal, a piece of fabric, a jerrycan, a prayer notebook became the obsessive focus of another quest, a new mythology. This raises the question of how to preserve the memory of these migratory narratives. Here, staged in a cinematic essay with the dancer Barbara Sarreau, this question is explored through the lens of tragedya tragedy from which we will surely have to learn to be reborn one day...

Glyndebourne: Hamlet

Brett Dean's multi-award-winning opera received its world premiere at Glyndebourne Festival 2017. The world premiere recording of Brett Deans new opera based on Shakespeares best-known tragedy: To be, or not to be. This is Hamlets dilemma, and the essence of Shakespeares most famous and arguably greatest work, given new life in operatic form in this original Glyndebourne commission. Thoughts of murder and revenge drive Hamlet when he learns that it was his uncle Claudius who killed his father, the King of Denmark, then seized his fathers crown and wife. But Hamlets vengeance vies with the question: is suicide a morally valid deed in an unbearably painful world?

Picasso Metamorphoses in Blue and Pink

In Pablo Picasso's career, a blue and pink period gets the attention they deserve. It is between 1901 and 1907 that the seeds of all his future work lie, for it is then that Picasso turned his back on his father's teachings and broke free from academic constraints and himself at the beginning with everything that crossed his path. This documentary takes a look at Picasso's various metamorphoses, shaped by a struggle between zest for life and dark thoughts. A world shared by his friend Jaime Sabartés, who wrote it in a collection of memoirs. Art documentary (2018) by Gaëlle Royer.
