Sehen wir uns nicht in dieser Welt...

After Mr. L. had to leave his old home due to a resettlement, he finds himself in a room full of furniture. A journey of exploration begins, through drawers, rooms, sounds and memories. Daniel Höpfner's experimental animated film impresses with its original, detailed form. The exploration of the old building with soundscapes filled with the speeches of old rulers also provides an insight into something much larger and more global than just the decay of an individual's property. Old systems decay, dictators and governments fall. And what remains are memories and symbols.

Pierrot Lunaire

Invited by the conductor Premil Petrovic to stage Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, a musical theater work from 1912 based on the poems of Albert Giraud, LaBruce transposed a strange and tragic episode of true crime onto the composition. Complementing the original atonal score is a narrative about a trans man who is outed by his girlfriend’s father and forbidden from seeing the young woman again. Crestfallen, the protagonist decides to prove the fact of his manhood by castrating a taxi driver and then revealing his newly transplanted member to the two of them. This story, which for LaBruce “serves as a kind of allegory for all gender radicals and outcasts driven to extremes by the disapproval and hostility of the dominant order,” is rendered in a visual style that nods to the era of Schoenberg’s melodrama. LaBruce cheekily appropriates the formal vocabulary of silent cinema with black-and-white photography, irises, and intertitles like “A cock, a cock, my kingdom for a cock!”

Sprache: Sex

Sex is the most beautiful thing in the world. But talking about it without straying into lasciviousness or becoming inhibited remains tricky. Sprache:Sex places its trust in the power of free expression, the art of conversation, the miracle of the encounter. Sixteen people aged between 13 and 74 prove themselves to be practitioners of these disciplines. It is a matter of insecurities and desires, of preferences and turn offs, of varieties of love and life. A representative cross-section of society? Surely not! Statistically useful results? Even less so! A fanatical handing out of advice? Not a bit of it! Instead, it is a bold experimental set-up. Sober and playful. A documentary dance whose whole is more than the sum of its parts. Who should care? Actually, everybody.

Wetware

Both abject through its texture and relatable in its fragility, WETWARE offers hyperreality without the common symptoms of alienation. A seemingly self-sustaining ‘organism’ is generated completely in digital through synthesis without reliance on ’real’ imagery. The resulting image is limitless, perpetually spilling outside itself. Suggesting a feed pulsating beyond a bodily surface or even any bodily context, the work examines digital intimacies while also referencing worship music in its relaxing albeit disorienting sonic composition.
