A Second Mother

Nam-Ok who has Yun-Ho and Yun-Suk remarries widowed Heung-Yeol who has Hyeong-Tae and Hyeong-Ja. Nam-Ok are concerned about frequent quarrels between half brothers and sisters, but manages to deal with them wisely. As Yun-Ho who went to fishing with him falls into the water, Heung-Yeol tries to save him only to drown himself to death. Fifteen years later, Hyeong-Tae goes abroad to study while Hyeong-Ja lives in extravagance in Seoul. Yun-Suk gets to know Dong-Oh on the train, and Dong-Ho gets to like her, but later misunderstands her due to Hyeong-Ja's scheme, which causes Yun-Suk to commit suicide.

Habitual Sadness

The story of the women at the "House of Sharing" continues. Old women who share a common bond lead a peaceful life in the countryside, raising vegetables, chickens and painting pictures. They are no different from the elderly women we see every day. But they are all scarred by pain and sorrow from their collective history of being comfort women during World War 2. They became subject to prejudice in their own homeland after their return to Korea. It is painful for them to watch other peoples' children and grandchildren, and they feel rage when the Japanese government tries to cover up the unspeakable crimes they committed against them. The film asks us to remember what these women sacrificed and the shame and misery they faced even as these individuals pass away often forgotten by their own people.

Co-produced by Womenlink and the Feminist Film Collective Parituh, Even Little Grass Has Its Own Name was shot on 16mm film and was the first of its kind in Korea to address the issue of female office workers. The film is divided into two parts. Part 1 is about the conflicts of married female office workers who suffer from undertaking office work, housework, and childcare all at the same time. Part 2 focuses on single female workers who break away from being the traditional ‘flower of the company,’ and develop a greater sense of autonomy as they actively participate in forming a labor union.

Deok-jung, a taxi driver who speaks of death as casually as small talk, receives a terminal diagnosis. He buys a worn-out coffee vending machine — a mirror of himself — and sets out to find meaning in whatever time he has left. At a cheap lodging house, he crosses paths with Jeong-suk, a down-on-her-luck karaoke hostess past her prime. Moved by something he can't quite name, he offers her a deal: look after the machine, and he'll call it a relationship. Bound together by hardship and loneliness, the two begin to quietly tend to each other's wounds, and what started as a contract slowly becomes something neither expected. Before he goes, Deok-jung leaves Jeong-suk the vending machine as his final bequest — and in that rusted, weathered thing, she finds a reason to begin again.

While on his way to the local temple to ring an ancient bell which will grant his dying mother safe passage to the afterlife, Jong-du's father is killed by a Japanese soldier who was looting the temple. Out of respect for his father and grandmother and to help their spirits rest in peace, Jong-du tries to join the temple and cast a new bell to replace the one that was stolen however his obsessive behavior gets him kicked out of the temple. He marries Suk-hie who helps him scrounge for copper so he can make a new bell on his own.

Magnificent Wonderman

When the Mongolian Salitai raids the Shaolin Temple, the head Buddhist priest of the temple, Won-kak, meets by chance the mute So-sun and the Mongolian Il-gong. They shave their heads and enter the temple. Buddhist priest Won-kak gets the Buddhist soldiers together and tells them to protect to the end the national treasure, the golden Buddhist statue that is at Shaolin temple. The mute So-sun works as the lowest servant at the temple and learns how to fight. One day, evil men come and steal the gold statue. So-sun sees this and tells Buddhist priest Sio but the ringleader of men is none other than the Mongolian informant Il-gong. So-sun ends up on the run due to scheming of Il-gong. After training with the Pungdo-hyub fighting technique, Il-gong turns the Shaolin Temple into the bandits' headquarters. So-sun searches out the 'Hwa-gong Secret Fighting Technique' scriptures and trains under it to defeat the Pungdo-hyub fighting technique.

Dragon Lee Fights Again

Kim Man-sul who is released from prison after serving time for illegally smuggling and manufacturing methamphetamines turns up missing. Police investigator Pak Geo-ryong infiltrates the headquarters of a cult religious group called Baewon-gyo after learning that their general director, Pak Sang-gyu and Kim were associated. Geo-ryong exposes the secrets of Baewon-gyo with the help of Kyung-ah, the daughter of the high priest. He plans to escape and rescue Wu-ryong whose cover is blown as a cop. Geo-ryong and Wu-ryong are captured after trying to stop the Baewon-gyo from taking over the methamphetamine sweat house. But they make a narrow escape and take over the criminals in a mountain villa.

A ruined widow’s daughter Jum-soon has no time to rest, as her mother-in-law treats her like a maid, leaving her with all the kitchen chores, house cleaning, grinding grain, and sewing, while the mother-in-law smokes a pipe and nitpicks on her. What allows Jum-soon to endure is her ‘duty as a woman’ taught to her since young and her child husband’s lovable yammering.
