Ravex In Tezuka World

As "another story" set after the end of the original manga, this what-if "Return" plot depicts what happens to the title character after his final act to save Earth. After drifting in space, the robot boy is rescued by the three members of ravex, and he is miraculously revived — not by Tezuka's Black Jack surgeon character, but by "Space Jack." The newly evolved robot boy will be named "Ratom." The Princess Knight and other Tezuka characters will appear in this all-new story. Musical artists BoA, Maki Goto, Anna Tsuchiya, Tohoshinki, and TRF are contributing to the album, and an event is planned at Tokyo's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation on April 10. The album marks Avex's 20th anniversary and what would have been Tezuka's 80th birthday.

Winter Thaw

Haru is a high school girl who lives with her sister because her father, who was predeted by his wife, is single. She continues to knit a scarf for her father, but one day, she is told about her father's remarriage. As much as possible, the scenery of the city electric train running through the winter city is projected, as if it were a fixed-point observation. Even on the same winter day, a cold rainy night and a daytime car interior with dazzling light, etc. The city and people who smile gently at the protagonist with a rich expression are beautiful.

Dwelling

Dwelling follows the dramatic slow and solemn flight patterns of roaring miniaturized Boeings, Airbuses, Concordes, jet planes, and commuter aircrafts as if documenting chaotic airport traffic. Using grainy black and white footage, Sawa’s video is as mysterious and evocative as it is comical. Set entirely in Sawa’s apartment, the work addresses notions of displacement and melancholy, and was completed while he was a graduate student at the Slade School of Fine Art in London.

Hotter Than Inferno – Live in Osaka 2007

A complete document of the final Osaka date on the summer 2007 Hotter Than Inferno Western Japan Tour by ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO (featuring PPIKACHU of AFRIRAMPO). The miraculous injection of power provided by the addition of grenade-girl Pikachu to the ranks, and the special guest appearance by YAMAZAKI MASO (aka MASONNA) meant that this date at Bears was insanity on an unprecedented scale. By the end of the group’s set there was so little oxygen left in the venue that no one’s lighter would work!

Taimagura Grandma

They may be elderly, but Masayo and Kumezo Mukaido are still working just as hard as when they were young. Their life is hardly made any easier by the snow that covers their mountain village home of Taimagura, in the north of Japan, for much of the year. But the old woman is good-humored and quick to smile, and the weather conditions are no obstacle at all to their carrying on their work. They mash soybeans with their feet to make miso, chop wood and harvest potatoes. The 16mm footage shows them hard at work on the land, intercut with black-and-white shots of their mountain village, and the elderly couple’s ruminations on life. Then the inevitable happens, and Kumezo dies. Now Masayo is all alone. This loving film documents a modest life packed with all the daily duties that come with working the land. It’s an ode to the unforgiving beauty of nature, an unflagging work ethic and ancient tradition.

The Primitchibu World - Purimichibu na Sekai

The first scene of Kasumi Hiraoka's first feature-length film starts with the heroine standing at a storefront covered with rusty metal shutters, the name 'Dream Center' written above it in katakana. The Primitchibu World is not so much a narrative film as a performance and mood piece, inspired and driven by the music of singer-songwriter, performer, and essayist Takeshi Shirai, a.k.a. Primitchibu (the moniker is a play on words on 'primitive' and the Japanese for 'private parts'). There is a premise: a girl who sells flowers to passersby in the streets meets a boy who believes that war will break out if he traverses a shopping arcade and emerges at the other end. - Tom Mes http://www.midnighteye.com/reviews/the-primitchibu-world/

Datamatics - ver2.0

datamatics showed Ikeda at the height of his artistic powers, building on his own unmistakable artistic language. The Wire on Ryoji Ikeda, 2006 datamatics is the latest audiovisual concert in Ikedas datamatics series‚ an art project that explores the potential to perceive the invisible multisubstance of data that permeates our world. Using pure data as a source for sound and visuals, datamatics combines abstract and mimetic presentations of matter, time and space in a powerful and breathtakingly accomplished work. The technical dynamics of the piece, such as its extremely fast frame rates and variable bit depths, continue to challenge and explore the thresholds of our perceptions.
