Fire as a metaphor, and a worn out linguistic failure, the dead metaphor. Aristotle said, in the Poetics, “Metaphor consists in giving the thing a name that belongs to something else; the transference being either from genus to species, or from species to genus, or from species to species, on the grounds of analogy” Metaphor here can only give way to the real. Felt experience, phenomenological reality seem to be all that is left when grappling a flame. And what is written, in letter and image, seem to go beyond what can ever be spoken and heard.

Fund managers such as BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street and Fidelity are the new players of the financial world: they are not locusts, instead each one is a Tyrannosaurus Rex. They emerged after the last financial crisis of 2007 and are neither banks nor hedge funds and flourish in a practically regulation free zone. They can also best be described as shadow banks. The new players in the financial markets have taken over monetary policy. No one regulates them, neither national governments nor the Public.

"We Entered Through the Chimeline" explores folklore, using its strangeness to construct fictions and speculative futures that offer points of resistance to our present. The film focuses upon Ruth L. Tongue who was a folklorist and a self-proclaimed ‘chime child’. In her position as a chime child Ruth believed that she had the magical ability to collect songs that no one else could, leading many folklorists to read her work as fictional. The film draws from these unreliable narratives and amplifies their affective qualities to create new and wonky fictions that unfold throughout the film. The work is filmed on 16mm film and utilises film’s alchemical qualities. Light flares become moments of transformation that support the magical acts within the narrative.

Idling follows the lives of the artist's game avatars when the player is away from the keyboard. In a vast array of third-person open world games, the characters are idling in their unique ways. As the clips transition through a day and night cycle, the avatars' stillness extends the focus onto the virtual environment and the behavior of NPCs (non-playable characters), resulting in a meditative setting for the observation of the seemingly self-governing virtual worlds that seem to never cease activity whether or not anybody is watching.

Opossum Resilience is inspired on a series of encounters and interviews with a Zapotec female land defender. This place-based fabulation grounded in the valley of Oaxaca, Mexico, bastardizes Mesoamerican myths around four figures: a Hill, an Agave, an Opossum and Lady Reed. Lady Reed is a mythical Mixtec character who helps the opossum to cut the agave leaves in order to get its sugary alcoholic sap. Opossum Resilience overlaps the time of creation with a contemporary socio-environmental conflict around the imposition of a mining project in an Indigenous Territory. It summons the powers of festivity and inhebriation; and imagines an opossum providing an activist with the mythical powers to play dead and then revive.
