EBIZUKA in my own field

In April 2000, I started photographing Koichi Ebitsuka's works. Mr. Ebitsuka was a teacher at Tama Art University, and he happened to be appointed concurrently to the second department of art, where I work, and we became close. He was born in 1951, so he is 16 years younger than me. I wanted to think about and experience the "contemporary art" that I hadn't been to. And he, being selfish, visited his atelier and was shown around his works on an island in the Seto Inland Sea. For me, the year 2000 was a year of Ebitsuka-san's sculptures.

ガールフレンズ 黒沢まりあ

The first segment of Pure Girl’s Document 14 embraces a raw and spontaneous approach, carried by the presence of Maria Kurosawa. Between simple moments at the beach and much more directly filmed sex scenes, the film develops an intimate, almost documentary-like atmosphere. The grainy DV texture, the silences, and certain everyday moments give the segment a strange sense of closeness, as if the camera were trying to capture a presence as much as mere eroticism.

Insect Yakuza Mitsudango Conflict Vol.1

Shinjuku forest at night. In the sap taverns of insects and their neighborhoods, the honey dumplings that drive the body crazy have begun to flow. It seems that Club Swallowtail's "Yuko" is involved with the stag beetle gang leader "Suigyu", who has a crush on him.... Kiri, an informant behind the scenes, and Hitoshi, a silent insect slayer, are on the move. Behind Yuko's back is a bewitching queen bee, and a beautiful butterfly, Ageha, is chasing after her... Money and power, love and hatred turn one midsummer night into a nightmare. The stag beetle, rhinoceros beetle, and wasp families, as well as a group of goldfish, are all caught in the middle of the bloodshed. What will Hitoshi and the others see? Hitoshi's blade shines and roars in the dark night where not even the moonlight can reach!

In The Darkness Of The Space

A film diary shot in 8mm and 16mm over 10 years, from 1997 to 2007. A man with a camera runs from Sapporo and Ishikari in the north, to the Amami Islands such in the south, and as far as Jordan and Iraq in the west. Encounters with poets, anthropologists, Russian literature scholars, Ainu ethnic activists, nationalists, folk dancers, musicians, Amami singers, dark dancers, cameramen, shamisen players, and more are captured in dazzling images and sound. The title comes from Atsushi Nakajima's poem "In the darkness of Nubatama's universe, there is something bright about human culture."

Dumb Type: Memorandum

Combining elements of multimedia, dance and fragmented narrative, memorandum explores the hazy dimensions of recall that ground and disquietly erode our experience minute-by-minute. The set is simple - almost an abstraction. A bare stage is bisected by an impenetrable but translucent wall, a screen onto which will be projected a barrage of images. Amidst a cascade of white noise and REM-speed visual flashes, the performers break down the motions into displaced gestures in silhouette. Penetrating deeper beneath the surface of moment, dancers drift in a slow sensual subconscious slidestep through the "forest of memory" haunted by voices and desires.
