Marillion: Distant Lights

This is a live Blu Ray disc from 2019 Marillion Weekend from Port Zelande and a Show from Leicester. We are delighted, and somewhat relieved, to present a record of the last Marillion Weekend, from what has become the distant past! Which is half the reason for calling the two-film set ‘Distant Lights’ - the other half, of course, being a nod to a lyric from the Happiness Is The Road album, which was the centrepiece of the 2019 Sunday night show. Just to quash any speculation, the delay in releasing these films was not so much caused by any turn of events, as by everyone having been consumed by the creation of An Hour Before It’s Dark over the last couple of years.

Media Crash

There is what you see, what some people want you to see, and what you don't see. Never has France known such a concentration of private media. A few billionaire industrialists, owners of televisions, radios, newspapers use their media to defend their private interests. To the detriment of information of public interest. By hiding what is essential, by magnifying what is accessory, these media shape, orientate, hysterize for some the debate. With the complicity of certain political leaders, who willingly accept it. Mediapart and Premières Lignes tell you what goes on behind the scenes in the media.

State of rest

Salka was born as a refugee in the Sahara desert, and grew up in Italy by chance: she was one of the so-called "Little Peace Ambassadors". Sahrawis have been sending to Europe their children for decades, to show the world the injustice they suffer. A 2700 km long mined wall across the desert, and there's no mention of it even in UN resolutions on Western Sahara. This former spanish colony, just in front of Canary Islands, is occupied by Morocco since 1975. In 2011 I spent 5 weeks in the Sahrawi refugee camps near Tindouf, outer south-west of Algeria. This is where the Sahrawi's escape from their war-devastated land stopped, though none of them imagined they would stay there so long. When I met Salka, her foster italian mother Carmen and her mother Aisha, I had finally found what I had been looking for: state of rest began to take shape. Neither Salka nor I were born when it all began. Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco and plundered by many others for over 40 years

100 Seconds to Midnight: Doomsday Clock

We, as a planet populated by humans with nowhere else to go, have 100 seconds left to live because humanity teeters on the brink of self-destruction. While this sounds like the start of an apocalyptic disaster movie, it is in fact, reality. The Doomsday Clock is a warning of man's ability to create something that could destroy everything, humanity's very existence, a count-down timer to the point of no return - humanity's doomsday. It symbolizes how close humans as a species, have come to destroying the world with dangerous man-made technologies. The deadline of Midnight represents the moment of Apocalypse, and how close the clock is set to that deadline warns how close humanity is to ultimate disaster. With the intention of warning the public and inspiring action, the clock's hands are set in accordance to how great is the threat of destruction. Now, in the 21st century we are closer to Doomsday than ever before.
